Hi
Can definitely recommend Tracker - have 2 cars with Monitors already and planning a Horizon/Response on my impending D4. Not had occasion to use them in anger (thank goodness) but if either vehicle has ever been moved on low loader I always get a call from the Tracker folks checking to see why it is moving without the key. (Not sure what happens if I ever get on a ferry or Eurotunnel Shocked ) All the details and marketing bumph are on their website. The down side of basic tracker type devices is that they will not call for help if the key is used to steal the car. So if it happens at night and you don't hear them drive off then nothing will be done until you call it in as stolen the next day. There are some smarter (more expensive!) versions (e.g. Tracker Response) that provide you with additional radio keys that must be present in the car to disable the track. If the car is stolen with the correct car key but the special radio key is not present then the car automatically calls for help (silently). The key (sorry!) thing is to keep the Tracker key in a separate location from the car key Rolling Eyes
Ps if any of you are existing Tracker users they are offering a "loyalty" promotion that basically gives you a installed "monitor" for £99 + usual subscription price for any new vehicles.
Pps the following site is offering some good deals too http://www.vehtech.co.uk I have no relationship with them so cannot vouch for them but the price looked reasonable before I discovered the Tracker loyalty thing.

Sorry to hear that Ronp... your village was a lovely place to stay when we were on holiday last year... but not safe from those who are determined to take that which is not theirs... no doubt they will be out of towners. Evil or Very Mad

I had a Navtrak system fitted to my car when I bought it... costs about £170 per annum.

Lots of good tips on this thread such as the outdoor motion detectors... Not sure about the airguns though!

Deterrent is the only thing you can do - if they're determined then they'll get it - all you can do is to make them think "I'll move on to the next house/opportunity 'cause its easier" - so do all the external stuff - hopefully it'll counter the "oh he's got a D3 thats worth taking a risk to get!" attitude Rolling Eyes

Local copper reckons cameras (even some of the better mock-ups) are a deterrent - not 100% sure myself - all they need to do is hide face / change clothes

Shocked , it's not an airgun it's a trip wire which fires a loud blank cartridge. It is there to make them jump and alert you and other people in the area, not as an offensive weapon.

I would never suggest using any sort of gun, even a replica to scare of burglars. It just happened that when I did a google search for them it came up with that site.

Didn't click on the link and only read as far as airpistols!! Embarassed Thought you were going along the same line as Macs toys.

I do like the idea of loud bangs when someone trespasses onto your property, but wouldn't be any good in the city.. would sound like a war zone Laughing

Get a dog (that lives outside)

I have 2 border collies, who are absolutely superb guard dogs !

A few years ago i heard someone outside my house (They had just dumped another car nearby) saying lets get that car (Was a fronterra at the time). Then my collies started going bezerk and i heard them say "No way am i going in there with thoose dogs"

Collies or German Shepards are great as you never can tell by looking whether they are trustworthy.

I even get a discount on my house insurance because ive got doooogs !!!

Shocked

I'd have happily let them take a Frontera for the insurance money Wink Whistle

I know the thought crossed my mind at the time too.

But to be fiar it was the missuses car Whistle and for all the bad press Fronteras had it was one of the most reliable cars we have ever known (Had for 4 years) only ever services, tyres, brakes etc - never ever let us down or cost a penny other than usual wear and tear

However i dont think id ever convince her to change the D3 EVER !!!! Rolling Eyes
