The scum ..... I now need a tracker !
On Monday morning I noticed my back gate was open, thought nothing else about it.
Got a local neighbourly bulletin today mentioning that a house at the other end of town was broken into in the very early hours of Monday morning. They took the keys to his D3 and drove off in it - scum!
Another type of 4X4 was also stolen the same night!
Wife just went into the conservatory this evening and noticed a screw on the settee.
Checked about and found that the outside lock of the conservatory had been broken.
So the scumbags had obviously tried to break into my house for my keys on the same night.
Thinking on, because of the high mileage on my D3, if it were stolen I'd get 10 - 12k at best if I were lucky.
However that kind of money would not get me a D3 anywhere near the excellent condition mine is in.
So, the hub of the thread is - I need a tracking device.
Any recommendations/pros & cons on which is best.
All advice appreciated I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Sorry to hear about your situation.
You can get aftermarket devices fitted that immobilise the car even with keys. I had one where you had to press a button within the leather gearstick cover and put foot of brake to start etc
Thing is you have to way up the possibility of them being violent if they can't start your car.
You can also purchase devices that stop the car after 100m as well (controlled) which stops them getting further but far enough away from you.SOLD - 23my Range Rover Sport D300 Dynamic SE

Just had the police around.
Seems this was a big job!
It invloved the scum dumping one of the vehicles.
The police giving chase down the A1 then M1.
Pulling the scum over, only for them to reverse, ram and imobilise the police vehicle.

Sorry to hear that Ron, what , and I guess the D3's will get broken or exported..........not putting us in a great situation....but would love to catch a er.
For me, some advice given was never keep the keys in a place to be found, like on a hallway table, kitchen hook, jacket pocket etc etc, if they get in and still not find the keys then the D3 is useless to them.
I have the additional protection of a TRACKER system in mine, not cheap mind....but chose to do this as work were having trucks done, and the company offered staff discounts too, so I have Tracker Horizon, was'nt cheap as RRP I think is £500, but I paid £345 when I got the D3, and have to pay monitering and annual subscription of £300 (monthly DD).
Its alot of money I know, but its there, and I know I will get my D3 back very quickly, and the the PLOD as soon as notified are on the case

sorry Jason got to disagree, i'd rather they found the keys downstairs than come upstairs and use violence against any of the family, it's alright saying you would give them a slap if you caught them, but many of these professional gangs come armed with knives or worse. Let them have what they want and be on their way as quickly as possible....its only a (insured) car at the end of the day I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

In general I am mindfull of security.
I never leave my D3 keys downstairs [they're always close to me upstairs].
Through the night I'm known to blip the lock just in case I forgot to earlier.
But yes SJR I see your point, I'm mindful that some of the determined scum will come upstairs and act with menace.
I don't even leave change in view in my D3.

Its my home, intrude it and I will protect my family, myself and my property, whatever side of the law I end up on, as long as SWMBO and Georgia are safe
I've got a fair bit of house security going on, as I used to be away from home a lot leaving wife and kids alone. These days I make sure that the keys are not too easy to fetch - for instance with a magnet or hook through the letterbox. But i don't lock them away - it is after all only a car . .. (A damn good car, but in the scheme of things etc )
Lock the gate, I also have a remote "chime" fitted down the side of the house, anyone wandering down the side of the house will hear a beep - as will anyone inside. A good PIR security light - nobody likes to be lit up like a christmas tree while they break in. Last one from a policeman - use a baby alarm with the "baby" end down stairs and the "parent" end in your room - anyone messing about will wake you up.
Not saying any of these will help, but if you appear to be disturbing them, I would hope most would move on . . .
Oh and may as well be first to say - 2 dogs growling is by far the best "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

When they attacked my French door, they took every little piece with them, apart from a small thumb nail sized piece, which is what i noticed when opening the curtains in the morning.
The police said its so they can't be forensically linked to other jobs due to mole grip imprints.
bearing in mind i sleep in the next room i didn't hear a thing
So, I now have the whole of my house covered with a motion detection system, a simple DING DONG if they trip one of the numerous sensor covering doors, driveway etc
