Leather re trim

Hi
Noticed that someone on this post mentioned Seat Surgeons. I had my wifes VRS Skoda retrimmed by Seat Surgeons up in York 12 months ago. Excellent service and quality.
He retrims a lot of Range Rovers/ Land Rovers for dealers.
I paid a bit extra for the better quality leather and they are really outstanding. Still very good value for money.
Would strongly recommend them.
For pics take a look at the brisokda. net site and links.

I think it looks great and not only does it look different to the 'standard' leather seats, (They aren't perforated), the seat backs are leather too unlike the standard leather seats which have vinyl backs. (Bet you didn't know that)!

This thread is very interesting to me as I have just had my car retrimmed in leather by buying a complete set of covers from Landrover and getting an upholsterer to swap them over. I have to disagree with DiscoDad though, all my covers were genuine leather including the backs, they were manufactured in South Africa for Landrover and all are marked with the leather symbol EXCEPT the pair of 3rd row covers which are PVC and are manufactured in Czech Republic for Landrover.

The strange thing is, that the first set of covers that were supplied to me, the rear centre seat cover looked and felt different to the rest, upon closer examination I discovered the part No on the packaging and the part No on the seat cover differed by one digit, and the cover was in fact marked PVC not leather. This was also made in Czech Republic I spoke to the parts manager at Landrover, who told me there were two different part Nos for the seat covers, one was for leather and one was for PVC. I wonder if that is where DiscoDad got his information from ? The genuine leather ones are South African, PVC ones are from Czech Republic.

I too thought about going down to Exmoor Trim to get the car recovered but at the end of the day I wanted it still to be all genuine Landrover, which it now is. The upholsterer I used had quoted me a price to manufacture a set of covers himself and fit them, this would have been far cheaper that the way I have gone about it, but once he had fitted them, he remarked on the quality of the product, they fitted perfectly and had all the proper fixings already in place and simply clipped right in. He himself has a Discovery and has said that if he decides to upgrade to leather he will not make the himself but buy genuine parts.

That is quite curious. Is the rear centre seat perforated like the rest of them? I remember a thread a few weeks ago from someone (cant be bothered to do a search) whose centre rear seat was not perforated whilst all others were!
BTW my info on the vinyl seat backs came from the dealer!
Am I gullible?

Check link below and notice the spec says 'leather seat facings'

Hi DiscoDad, No you are not gullible its just that there are two different "leather" seats available, one is made of real leather and the other of PVC. This does not apply to the 3rd row seats however as they are only available in PVC.

I only came across this because there was a wrongly packaged part in one of my parcels, it was the PVC option for the rear seat, not the leather option. There was only one digit seperating them. Other than that they were identical. (apart from country of origin) The perforations are only used on seats that contain seat heaters the centre seat does not, so is not perforated.

I think you will find that Landrover use the term "leather facing" because unlike any other after market supplier, Landrover use different materials on their seats. For example around the front seat bases where the plastic cover for the seat height adjuster sits, the seats are trimmed in a sort of suede type material, I assume this is to prevent the material wearing out due to the plastic cover rubbing on it. Similarly on the back seats this material is also used on the sides and back edges to prevent any wear when the seats are folded forward. If Landrover were to call them "leather seats" no doubt someone would take them to court for false advertising !!!

I also have been told some strange "information" from my dealer, the best one being that he is convinced that the Fuel Burning Heater heats the diesel before it is injected into the cylinder, not the coolant.

Leather is to be fitted on Monday - CANT WAIT, for all the HSE and SE owners I know the seats wont be as good as yours but can't wait anyway.

It means that my boys can walk over the trim in muddy shoes and I wont get stressed about it as it will wipe off.

I will post some pictures once done
