Just a quickie – drove a short distance this morning with a heavy bag sat on the passenger seat, of course with the seat belt light obviously flashing and the intermittent ping from the weight.
Having now removed the bag, the light stays on as if the weight is still there and that annoying ping remains.
Light extinguishes if I fasten the belt, but light re-appears and pings when I un-fasten.
Is this a simple disconnect battery type fix or a Man with brains, a gizmo and/ or laptop to clear.
Many thanks.

I think you have damaged something in the seat.
You can stop the pinging, by inserting the drivers seat belt in and out 16 times (with the ignition on I think)
light will remain functional .

Oh - and it was only a carrier bag!
Looks like bigger fix than I thought then.
Many thanks. D3 HSE V8...

There is a seat occupancy sensor in the seat (see YDB500361 and LR017308).

UPDATE - Seems a good 24hrs later forced to sit in shame at the office, it has miraculously healed itself.
Light's off, no pinging and I have quite literally bounced up and down on the seat to get it to repeat the fault (why would I do that??) and all seems good.
Thanks for the advice and part nos: I shall make a note as I'm sure it will come back with vengeance at some point.
