Seat Belt Retractor

Hi Everyone,

Ratehr frustratingly, My D4 Drivers seat belt doesnt retract as it should, meaning I have shut the chuffin' metal part in the door numerous times!!!

It still works as it should if you pull it forward (Actually passed its MOT with it) but I am totally fed up with shutting it in the door.

I have asked a garage to quote to replace but they arent exactly motivated and I wondered if it was an easy fix to replace myself?

Also, anyone know where I can order a new one from??

Thanks

There are a number of threads on here about seat belts not retracting. My prefered fix is to pull all of the seat belt out, and spray some silicone lubricant on both sides of the webbing. Wipe over with a cloth as it retracts. Pull the belt out a few times and it'll be as good as new. Thumbs Up

I'm just about to buy a D4 with this issue on the driver side so this thread is invaluable! It's one of the first jobs I'll be doing. Thank you

I have removed a belt reel in the past for this very problem. It is possible to disassble the reel but the inertia locks are a pain and it very easy to lose the pins.

Despite it appearing to be very weak rewinding the belt the coil sping is in fact very strong. I was able to increase the pull and fix the problem but I think it was very 50-50 if it was that that fixed it or cleaning and lubing it.

I have gone ahead and purchased silicon spray. I will report back once I pick the car up!
