second hand Disco XS 2010 - what to look out for? |
|
Hello all,
i'm hoping to become a new disco4 owner soon and have booked myself in to view a 2010 XS model tomorrow.
This will be the first 'second hand' vehicle i have owned so i am looking for some advice on things to look out for when viewing this vehicle.

Hi Briss and Welcome.
I assume you are looking at a purchase via a LR dealer, so first thing is to make sure they give you the full 12 month LR warranty they if anything does go wrong you are covered
Full Service History goes without saying...rest , depends on how many miles it has done..
Anything over 50k-60k , I would check to see if discs are ready for replacing
Check all switches work...check seats for scratches or scrapes.
Check edges of front door cards at they can get small rips in them from trapping seat belt buckle in door .
Check wheels for signs of kerbing and make sure you take it for a drive....it should be smoooooth
good Luck Cheers Ian

cheers outofyorkshire,
thanks for the quick response.
I am guessing that when you say discs, it's referring to brakes of some kind? how would i go about seeing if they are "ready" for replacing. the car i'm looking at has done 80,000k.
I guess i'll take a little checklist of things to take note of when i pop down there tomorrow

Is that 80,000 km or 80k miles?
If it's over 3 years old it need an MoT, obviously, so look at that & any advisories. If coming up to 3 years old ask for a new MoT before you agree a deal.
Check that everything works suspension raises & lowers promptly, air con works, check transfer box etc.. no clonks over bumps...
Good luck.

No, it's not a lr dealer. I spoke to the dealer yesterday who informed me they do get their cars checked by lr. But don't know how much truth there is there

There are more knowledgable people on here than me but personally I wouldn't touch one from a non LR dealer or 3 years old and that mileage
You need at least 12 month LR warranty. IMHO D4 HSE - Aintree Green
D4 Orkney my13 - gone
Stornaway D4. Gone, Didn't like it at all
D3 silver manual. Loved my first LR

I would.
The dealer where I bought my RRS from last year originally wanted £25k but I got it for £22k for it, as I pointed out that the wheels would need a refurb, needs a service and I didn't want their useless warranty. 2012 RRS HSE - Orkney Grey

+1 for that at 80 K it should certainly have needed new discs all round .. and suspension bushes may be a bit iffy at that as well as verious other things...wheel bearings etc....
i would check what is on LR web sit at that price !! Cheers Ian

+2 I wouldn't trust that mileage bracket all !
Either side of that is a safer bet, at about 80K your into the kind of territory that made the initial purchaser get shut, at that mileage I don't think they are viable from a none franchised main dealer and even then you have to choose wisely ?
If you can thin a couple of grand off the top it will almost certainly pay for bushes, brakes, and any other incidentals but they are the sort of things that would come done on a dealer purchase, or at least be taken straight back in for ? Only dead fish go with the Flow !
