...which meets all current emission regulations and hasn't had any of its emissions equipment deliberately disabled or removed. Electric cars are coming and by the time that the fatty's worn out, my next car is certain to be electric.
Meanwhile, Point 3 here is interesting:
"Benefits of a Fully Functioning EGR Valve
1. Less Emissions: The recirculated gas keeps the engine cool inhibiting the production of harmful gases such as nitrous oxide that can only form in temperatures of above 2500 Fahrenheit.
2. Reduction of throttle loss on spark ignition engines.
3. Extends the life of the engine chamber by reducing its exposure to high temperatures."

How long until your FF is worn out? 5 years? 10? 20?
Sorry, just think it's incredibly poor form to bring your wife in to it so you can point the finger at someone else whilst driving what you drive.2014 D4 XS

I’m reckoning on 10 years.
So, by your reckoning, is anyone who maintains their emissions systems (rather than deliberately wrecking them) in no position to pass any comment on those that deliberately wreck theirs? Or even provide some kind of alternative to all of those that advocate and even encourage others to do so?
And that’s poor form, is it?2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

One would need to know the level of pollutants from the exhausts of both vehicles to make this meaningful.
However, my money would be on the EU6 SDV8 being considerably “cleaner” especially on particulates than the older EU3 or EU4 TDV6 with EGR’s removed/blanked.
I’d guess the SDV8 is cleaner than the TDV6 even with the EGR’s intact and working.
Happy to be proved wrong though.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Bringing your wife in to it, so that you can point the finger, while planning to keep a V8 Diesel for 10 years when there are plenty of alternatives available - yes. Now, if you were driving a prius/i3/horse and cart I might be able to accept your finger pointing about people deliberately harming your wife.
LT, I've no doubt that a well maintained modern V8 Diesel is far cleaner than an older V6 with the emissions system intact, never mind removed!
For example, the 2015 D4 puts out 18% more Nox than the average 3.0 diesel engine, the 4.4TDV8 FF puts out 47% more than the average 4.4 engine...so there must be healthier engines about. interestingly the 4.4V8 puts out 144mg/km compared to 143mg/km for the TDV6

the problem is that whilst the technology to clean the emissions up exists and COULD be modified to go on all cars ( retro-fit too, but less likely ) it's not sexy enough to be getting the investment required to do it.
i pointed out in another thread that the next pollutant issue they are lining up is the particles from tyre wear ... which even the EV cars still need to get around.

D3 sits in the drive. What’s its emissions output. Anyone - zero. So by my fuzzy logic irrespective of the engine you have the “damage” done to the environment is directly related to the miles you do! So by my measure the argument is spurious to say the least until the mileage covered is assessed. So how do we assess this? Given the government is only interested in revenue raising it will never happen and the “experts” will jump on the band waggon to pontificate on the worst case scenarios just for effect and to justify their position. In the meantime the debated will go on. Don’t look for an answer any time soon.Once you have defeated the idiots any job is half done. Pity there are so many idiots to defeat.

Any diesel pre Euro6 is a dirty piece of crap.
The problem with any Euro6 is the particulates are now so small they are entering the food chain.
So whether you run an old shtter or the latest newest diesel they are all causing damage.
Anything humans do/make/use/alter causes damage to someone/something/somewhere, to think otherwise is foolish.
We all know 99 percent of people on this forum and many others could do what they need with a nissan micra, most on here have a land rover product because they want one not need one.
I should point out Im no greenie/hippy thinking of the earth, Im the same self centred bar steward as the rest of you, just pointing out what you all already know

Anyone who buys an electric car needs to have a long hard look at themselves too IMHO.
The amount of cobalt needed for the batteries and the conditions it is mined is shocking.
Young kids being pushed down mines to get it is horrific.
I watched a youtube video on it, where he went undercover and it was truly awful.
It has certainly made me think twice about upgrading my phone, macbook or anything with a lithium battery in it.
Not sure what the answer is really? But someone somewhere will always pay the price.

As long as the pipes are in place, over the blanking plates, as mine are, just plead ignorance, must have been done by a PO.....it would take a keen eyed and knowledgeable salesman to spot the blanks....1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

I was instructed by my insurers some years back that it was perfectly OK to remove the EGR's from my D3 as they were a know problem with the vehicle and prone to failure and I have their email to prove it. I would however reinstate the EGR's when I come to sell the vehicle on unless sending it for scrap.Mike
