Serpantine belt change whilst doing coolant

Belt is due for replacement and as I want to do the coolant at the same time wondered if it would be wise to take the rad out - bear in mind that mine is the V8

Cheers....Ian

Just about to do the belts myself (you are doing both I take it?). I hadn't planned on changing the coolant (did that not so long ago). I don't think that changing the belts is sufficiently difficult to warrant removing the radiator but hadn't considered it. Speaking from experience I've always found it best to leave radiators where they are unless they absolutely have to be removed (very bitter and very expensive experience).

Given that you don't need to remove the rad to change the coolant or do the two belts, I'd suggest leave it where it is and accept that things may be a bit more of a struggle, noting that the alternative could be far worse (these cars are old and some parts quite fragile and aged). You should put a piece of card behind the rad to protect it if leaving it in place.

Let me know how you get on! I'll gladly wait for you to go first! Thumbs Up
