Service advice
I’ve had my 05 D3 for a couple of months now and am content that it has been serviced well and as required. It underwent quite a bit of work not too long ago, and the advice from the seller was that it would just benefit from an oil and filter change towards the end of the year.
So the question is, Hampshire based, where are the recommendations for said oil change?
I’ve been in touch with a couple of LR specialists in the area recently but was a little put off by some of the responses, seemed to want to sell more than I was asking for and one really didn’t seem to want to give the time or any interest..
All recommendations welcome

Its not difficult

That’s a fair point. I do bike and boat servicing myself, did most things on my previous D2 also. Think I’m just a little apprehensive with this one because of the complexity of it and all the potential problems..2005 Disco3 HSE Auto 😁

Assuming you continue with D3 motoring for several years, oil changes will be a repeat experience and cost. Effectively, you pay yourself what the garage would charge, many times over.
You might also gain the confidence to change other oils/ fluids. There is plenty of guidance here and on YouTube.
Also, I think you will feel some satisfaction from the achievement.Chris

I was apprehensive when I initially bought mine - but it’s actually one of the easiest vehicles I’ve changed the oil on, with how accessible the filter is on top.
If you can do a bike/boat - you’ll be utterly fine.Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

+1 What he says. Use a pump. Screw doing this removing the sump plug. My V8 was a nightmare of oil-spewing mess. Got a Mityvac thingy and it does the change in no time with now mess. Amazing.PAGODA

The only real issue is with fitting the oil filter.
The oil filter has a drain hole so that when you unscrew the top the oil inside will drain to the sump, the filter has a little nipple on the bottom that seals the hole.
When fitting the filter place it into the housing after aligning the nipple, then screw the top back on.
When you remove the top the filter will come out attached to it, so some people have fitted it back this way and not aligned the nipple. This results in very low oil pressure and engine damage.
If done right its a very simple and safe process so i dont want to put you off but just take your time and it will go ok

This may divide opinions but what is the best oil to go for, and is there a specific make of filter that is recommended? I've planned a day in next week to sort the oil change and have a general day of tinkering.
Thanks..2005 Disco3 HSE Auto 😁

Any good quality known brand oil will do as long as it meets the quality requirements.
I tend to stick to genuine filters as they aren't to expensive but again a good quality well know brand will do the job
