Service intervals in Australia

Hi All,
Just clocked the 136Kkms in the MY05 D3 and found the rear (locking) diff had burnt oil in it. No metal on the plug but pretty dark and smelly oil.
It looks as though the last service (big one) was incomplete. I have just completed a large trip 25,000 kays and a few services at differing locations around Aus. So that I know what should be done when has anyone got a Maintenance check sheet that tells me what needs to be done after 100KKms.
I always do intermediate oil and filters (air/oil) but I'm worried about the diffs and the boxes.
Regards,
Gaz

Hi Gaz, you should double flush the gearbox every 80,000 km and change the diff oils too. This is not in the maintenance schedule but recommended by most independent specialists "in the know".

According to the service schedule the diff oils are to be changed every 10 years. However it also says the gearbox oil is to be changed every 240,000km or 10years but many are failing at about 130,000km so so I would be looking at the diffs much sooner than 10years.

Hi Garry, changing the gearbox oil and diff oils every 80,000 km will certainly help to avoid the very costly repairs that some D3 owners have had with diffs failing and gearbox problems.

Thanks all,
Much appreciated. I will go and make sure the Tranny flush and pan mod are done (bit costly though). Local on NE road wants around $1000 but has not provided a firm price yet so might shop around as stated.
I had the rear diff done and the rubbing noise is gone. The oil was pretty brown and had a smell of hot oil. But no water thank goodness. Did Robe to Carpenter Rocks via Beachport and no noises at all. She got up on all beach sections and hill climbs in between. Great trip.
So I expect that the front diff could do with a dump and refresh too. I'll have a look to see how hard the diffs are and probly do them myself.
Thanks again all, Gaz
