Service Plan
Hi All,
I'm trading my 62 D4 HSE in on friday for a new HSE, the dealer has asked if I want to include the new 5 year /50,000 mile service plan. Looking at the service intervals of 16,000 miles it seems I'm only going to get 3 services out of this deal and as such in your experience do you think its worth going for? The argument is, is £699 cheaper than 3 x standard services or am I missing something?

I thought it was 16000 miles or every 12 month. Whichever comes first.?

I was under the impression it is based on millage not rigid 12 month intervals.
Does anyone have service costs of the D4 so I can compare if its cheaper to go for the service plan or stick to paying for them individually? only plan to have the car for 3 years so I'm doing the comparison over three services.

The first two services from a LR dealer would be around £700. So if you can get at least 3 for £699 I would go for it.

Two for £700 seems a good deal, based on my limited experience. We've owned our 62 reg since June, but it's now requiring it's second service. The local main dealer (Lookers) quoted £757, but eventually agreed to match the price from the local accredited Service Agent, ( £525, inc collection and delivery). However Lookers seemed incapable of actually booking our vehicle in ( I'm sorry sir, but our computer is down, we'll call you back.) Of course, no call was forthcoming.
So, the Discovery should be collected on Dec. 3rd. I consider the charge to be excessive for a simple oil change plus inspection, but it's necessary to keep the warranty in place.

You can go to any VAT registered garage and get them to use LR equivalent quality parts for the servicing and your warranty would remain intact - you don't need to use a LR dealer. So you can save money at an independent.
What you would lose out on though is LR dealer goodwill, software updates at servicing and possibly the chance to go on the LR Approved scheme if you want to trade-in with a LR dealer.
But do call around LR dealers and negotiate on price - there's been as much as £200 difference between dealers when I've called.
But nowhere as good as at least 3 dealer services for £699.

Just spoke to main dealer, and provided total mileage is below 50,000, as mine will proberbly be, i will get 5 services including transfer box oil change for £699. Seems an absolute bargin.
Hi winnie5. Can I just confirm your latest posting. Are you saying your Main dealer will give you 5 services on a Disco 4, for a total pre-payment of £699, providing your mileage during the contract is less than 50,000 ?
If true, that seems the bargain of the century! Is that for a brand new vehicle?
I'm pretty certain I'll do less than 50,000 in 5 years, but my vehicle is just over 2 years old now.
I'd love to go to our Main Dealer and get them to match, or at least get near to what you've been offered.

Thats what i have been told, and is clearly described in the 'Discovery Service Plan' - link below
The vehicle has to be less than 3 months old to be accepted into the Service Plan, and it's 5 services or 50,000 miles, which ever is 1st.

I took out a service plan with the dealer nearly 2 years ago at £1279.60 which covered the 60k, 75k and 90k services and I thought this to be a saving when you look at individual service costs. So I'm just wondering what you will get for £699, if it's all in with no cutting corners I would rip their arm off for that price.

I would say it's good value and even appears to include the brake fluid change that was an additional chargeable item at the old 3 year service. I went to a main dealer that didn't bother to do the fluid change and didnt bring it to my attention when I collected the D4 - I only picked it up from the completed (or rather I completed) service checklist. Mind you, these were the same numpties that highlighted I only had 3mm on my rear tyres and when I said change them said they didn't need it yet depending on my "grip requirements". This was December 2013 and I got rid in July this year with 4mm left !2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT
