Is this service price and time correct?

I enquired with my dealer if they could give me a price for an extra additional oil/filter change in between scheduled services because I believe it is a good thing. Also – could it be done whilst I wait?
The reply was £260 and it would take 2hrs Shocked .
When I picked myself up of the floor I began to question this. Are my pants being pulled down?

if you insist on a mid service oil change, use an indy, as long as they use genuine filter then there shouldn't be a problem. I would ask why though, there is no evidence to suggest it stops any particular failure........

Agreed re not stopping failures, mine was on a diet of mid term oil changes and the big spinny lump still died. If those bearing shells are going to rotate they are going to rotate, regardless of what maintenance is done. Evil or Very Mad

Save yer hard earned. Thumbs Up

and the correct oil.

I have a mid service oil & filter change by our local Indy West 4x4 & have done so since I first owned a Discovery eons ago.

It may not be essential, or help with certain issues, but it certainly does no harm, and I sleep better as a result.

The best and safest thing to do in my opinion is to buy all the genuine filters and Oil from AF and get an Indy to do other work for you. It'll save you money and you'll know exactly which filters and oil is fitted.

I don't do mid services, and I do all my servicing myself..

Remember the Dealers will have 'Standard times' that they charge for so they may not have a 'just change the oil and filter' standard time so may have to go down as a certain service which will have the 2 hours time attached.

Do some decent research, find a good Indy and buy the filters and oil from a trusted source (AF/ Opie etc)..

£260 for an oil change? I think they're yanking your chain!
Personally I wouldn't bother with an oil change between services, because as has already been said, if it's going to go bang, it will go bang regardless.
Two people that I know of that worked in the oil industry said that if you use a high quality engine oil, you need NEVER change the oil, just the filter.
Of course we are all conditioned to change the oil at regular intervals and I am no different, but it does make you wonder. The oil industry make billions on engine oils Thumbs Up
