'Service Required' alert at 11k miles |
|
My LR4 has just over 11k miles and I'm getting the "service required" alert when I start up the car. According to the manual, first service isn't required until 15k miles. Why the early notification? 2013 LR4 HSE lux | Santorini Black | 5.0 V8

Or you're hooning it everywhere! The car is intelligent and if you're heavy right footed all the time it will need a service sooner than if you're driving like a Granny....
Though just noticed your car and the answers probably the first.... So not fair... We can't even buy that car here and it's made just up the road!
What'll she do Mister?

FC I don't think that's right. The service interval is not variable and it makes no difference how you drive. Its very straightforward, service is 12 months or 15k miles whichever occurs first.

How disappointing.... Thought with the technology present it would vary... My BMW's always did!
Gutted.....

From the handbook
Quote:Depending on the
type and style of driving that the vehicle is
subjected to, the indicator may display a
service message at a shorter distance than
shown in the Service Interval Plan. The OIL
indicator will illuminate if an interim oil check is
required.

Its true - it can be a variable SHORTER service, not LONGER than the book value (years miles) hence not truly variable Mike

I stand corrected (in part). It's nowhere near as sophisticated as the BMW or VAG systems which can and commonly do extend the service intervals significantly.

Darned right it ain't sophisticated - it's blooming stoopid!
Bought my 2009 LHD D4 GS 2.7 Manual (yes.. I have got one back in June this year (1 owner, 51K Miles, full LR SH).
Around mid August it told me it needed a service in 1200 miles. 2 days later, Service required! Had it serviced by Lancaster LR in Thatcham at 53800 Miles (90K mile service - yes... many stamps so far) on 9th Sept this year.
I have now taken it to France where we live and combined with travel down, back up and down again plus some work mileage, have covered some 5500 miles since service - and about a week ago (yes, that is 3 months and 2 weeks and 5.5Kmiles since last service), the service indicator said - service required in 1700kms (have changed to metric). Next day it said Service required!
I love my Disco and apart from the DPF being tricked into being full by some dodgy supermarket diesel, it has been great (knock on wood) but I have no intention of servicing it every four months or 5500 miles.
Anybody else experienced this?
I presume Lancaster reset the service indicator as it was off when they returned the car to me.
Oh, and apart from my happiness.... previous owner had tyres changed as they were noisy to Cooper XSTa..... avoid like the plague. They are for 'sport SUVs' and appear not to be able to cope with Disco 4 weight. Fairly new when I bought car, now knackered, 8K miles later! And no, I don;t drive like a Frenchman (sorry) and stick to speed limits. Lots of MWay driving though, some mountain, no off road
