Servicing - Price Matching
When my 4th annual (B) service was due I checked this site and rang a couple of local main dealers and good independents to get a price guide.
When I rang the dealership where I'd bought the car (Lookers Land Rover, Chelmsford) and asked them to pricematch, I quoted Land Rover Yeovil's discounted Forum price of £340 and the £350 I had been quoted by Ongar Bridge in Essex. Lookers responded with a quote of £294 all in which I accepted thinking that the VAT would bring the final price up to the Yeovil price.
Lookers collected the car earlier this week and returned it after the service. Nice valet job (Snowdonia and Yarwell event evidence all gone) and a replacement high tone horn done under extended warranty. Paid the bill and was surprised that the £294 I had originally been quoted turned out to be £294.88p but inclusive of VAT!Clubs Mantec, Tasmods, LEDS, AT2s on 18s, Maxxis Bighorns on 17s, Remote FBH, BAS. Compared to some of the prices that get quoted on here for a B service, I struck gold. Hopefully it will help others on here with their attempts to get dealers to pricematch and/or offer servicing at fair rates I have put a pdf copy of my invoice in my gallery
invoice pdf copy now in my gallery here
Despite my overall pleasure at the price, the cost of parts is still excessive

Two things amaze me about your post:
1. They actually answered the phone.
2. They did some work.
Is there another Lookers Chelmsford opened up in the last few days that I am not aware of

Sorry - I meant the 88p difference (not the total difference of VAT) could have been a bulb...2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

My only worry about Dealers price matching is, as they have agreed to do the service for a lower price than they normally charge, are they going to do the same job or are they going to do it "down to the price" ?

...so, on a 45K service, will they just miss the brake fluid change on the quote, and call back mid service to ask...!2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

I would asssume they still have a legal duty to do everthing on the LR service sheet for the relevant service (A or B), and consumables (filters, oil etc) can be easily checked if they want to try it on! Or am i being Naive
edit: As i understand the brake fluid and similar items, it is recommended at certain intervals, but not part of the service, it is classed as an extra I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

For me it all boils down to the issue of, If you don't trust your dealer/person servicing the car, why are you using them to maintain something that if not maintained properly could kill you or others I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

But then again, not everyone has access to a range of dealerships within a reasonable distance of them.

When I was shopping around last year for my 3rd annual (45k mile equivalent) service, none of the dealers I called included the brake fluid change in their quotes. It's recommended by Land Rover at 3 years or 45k miles but, as SJR says, it's regarded as an extra and chargeable as such.Clubs Mantec, Tasmods, LEDS, AT2s on 18s, Maxxis Bighorns on 17s, Remote FBH, BAS.
