Ive seen many posts on here praising sgs jacks and have often thought they look just the same as the cheap far east ones on ebay and machine mart etc?
Of course they are black with a nice sticker

My first one lasted around 13 months, but it was used daily, and in all weathers
Eventually stopped meshing to raise/lower, and began to creep down on occasion
Replaced with another 2 SGS jacks.
One handle leans too far forward (small annoyance)
Handle doesn't stay engaged with the square drive in the mechanism
The 2nd jack had one of the bolts work lose, and damage the threads in the jack body. Bodged together by removing the spring washer and smashing the bolt back into what was left of the threads. Seems to have help up so far, but it's not great...My D3 Build Thread
note to self ... don't work under anything DiscoMikey has jacked up .

My car fell off the sprinter jack when changing a flat tyre the other day. Not fun. By look caught on the wheel so no damage, but had to borrow a trolley jack to resolve the situation. Not happy and not sure of a safe solution for flats.

Did the car roll? if so why? as I cant really see any reason for it coming off unless the car moved.

The 3 tonne trolley jack I purchased just over a year ago (2 year warranty, apparently) from SGS has started leaking. When it worked it did the job of lifting the Discovery (and lesser cars) well - large stable base but just light enough to lift at 40kg. Getting back to SGS Engineering, they say that hydraulic seals are 'wear and tear' items so not covered by the warranty but they would send me out a new so I could fit them my self or I could send the jack to them (it weighs 40 kg) and they would see if there was a manufacturing fault not associated with 'consumable' items such as seals. If I try fitting new seals myself, I know it is probably less straight forward than putting new seals in a single line Girling master cylinder and surely by me dismantling the jack, any warranty would be voided? Are hydraulic seals normally exempted from new goods warranty? If you bought new brake calipers and they leaked in warranty period wouldn't you expect a return?

That is not acceptable, I've got 2 trolley jacks that are each over 30 yrs old, had lots of use, they still work perfectly and don't leak in the slightest, and I've not had to replace the seals yet.....something isn't right, either poor seal material / design, seal material not compatible with type of oil used, and/ or poor machining of any metal parts associated with the sealing surfaces. Utter garbage, not fit for purpose. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.
My Scissor jack went stiff and on inspection the threads are worn and about to fail so it has gone in the scrap metal bin, also I snapped off the winder at its ball and spring connection point.
Sprinter Jack ebayed today
trolley jack 30mm adapter ordered
just mulling over which trolley to buy - it need to raise 52 cm right?
my 2 tonne stong arm clarke died this year going down slowly. but it would only riase to 36 anyway!D3 2004 HSE
