Re: V8 Upgrade

Drilled and groved discs offer very little or no benefit over the larger V8 standard disc, the important bit is co-efficient of friction, so the largest surface to surface area is the real key in stopping power, land Rover never produced a model with drilled/grooved discs. TBF the D3's brakes were not fabulous, which is why so many people have done the upgrade.

I personally can vouch for the upgrade, stopping power is hugely improved, and i have only done my front's so far as the rears were new when i bought the car.

The kit from the same company offers drilled discs thus the question, V8 standard or V8 drilled?

Just seen this thread again and three years later they still work just fine, callipers still look good as I dont use acid alloy wheel cleaner which eats the gold finish.

Pretty much all I have done to the brakes is strip and lube annually.

I think the biggest let down with D3 brakes is the initial bite, std or v8, it just isnt there and is always a little dissapointing, but easy to learn to live with.

I was very tempted by the V8 upgrade but luckily stumbled across a pair of 4 pot Brembo's for practically nothing so have gone down that route Thumbs Up

18” wheels are the smallest you can use with the v8 upgrade.
