Shocking!!! D4
When in the car and entering a parking garage or toll gate, I get a static shock when I touch something outside the vehicle. Anybody knows what causes this? I know I am not the only person experiencing this.White MY2011 SDV6 HSE

Polyester clothing.May the road rise with you.
May the wind always blow at your back.
And the sun always shine on your face.
May God always hold you in the palm of his hand.

Rather than receive a shock when touching the car, hold the metal part of a key and let the tip touch the metalwork, the spark will jump the gap between the end of the key and the car and you wont experience the shock.
When getting out of the car, keep your hand on the car's bodywork when stepping on the ground, instead of touching the ground then the car.

Nope nothing to do with clothing. Problem is entering the parking garage you have to press a button with your finger to get the ticket, that's when you get this shock, or when handing your card to the cashier at the toll booth and you touch hands you also get this shock, only with the motor running.White MY2011 SDV6 HSE

Sounds like you and the parking cashier might have a bit of electricity between you. Don't fight your emotions, go with it and beautiful things might happen. Please keep us posted. Lloyd "Phat Face"

Somehow you are being electrically charged and when you touch another person or earthed metal then that provides a path to earth for the static electricity to flow. Whilst sitting in the vehicle you are fairly well isolated from earth because of the rubber tyres etc being an insulator. This could be down to what you're wearing or a statically charged atmosphere slowly building up a charge. Have you searched generally on the 'net for an explanation?

I see what you're saying Nick but if this was just the atmosphere or what I'm wearing then shouldn't this happen when I drive other cars? I don't specifically dress for drives in the disco, so there must be something specific to this vehicle effecting the situation?2005 D3 HSE 2011 D4 Landmark 2016 D4 HSE Lux

prexactly, I have a new disco but still the same clothes and never and I mean NEVER happened to me in the D3. It's also a fairly strong static shock, not the kind like when you rub your feet on the carpet White MY2011 SDV6 HSE

Maybe it's time for a resurrection of those good-old anti-static rubber straps that folk used to hang of their rear bumpers???
If you can find out the cause, maybe you could harness it and use it as an anti-carjacking security device which might be useful in your part of the world..

I had this with a particular car park once. The problem was with the car park equipment, not the car or its driver. Eventually the garage replaced the kit and sorted the problem.

Never had that issue with D3 or D4 so a couple of thoughts.
Talk to others who use this car park to see if they get same issue. If not do you know anyone else with aD4 that could try using the car park, bet they will not have the same issue. When you have tried these things and no one else has problem go back to dealers and get them to look at car also ask them to lend you another D4 to prove it is your car.
