Short turbo hose

Dear all,

Looking to try and remove my short turbo hose.

Car went into limp mode twice last week, first time with

Engine TDV6

P0299-00 (2F) Turbo/supercharger underboost
P132B-00 (2F) Turbo/supercharger boost control A performance
P006A-00 (2E) Manifold absolute pressure - mass or volume air flow correlation

Second time with

Engine TDV6

P0299-00 (68) Turbo/supercharger underboost
P132B-00 (68) Turbo/supercharger boost control A performance
P0046-00 (68) Turbo/supercharger boost control solenoid - circuit range/performance

Pretty sure that Disco_Micky has suggested in the past that a leak in a hose somewhere is a good bet.

I’ve looked at the long hose and can’t see anything, so I’ve gone to the turbo to try and GT85 the turbo actuator arm yet again;this’ll be the 5th or 6th time now in as many months.

Noticed a wet oil stain around the bottom of the short hose though.

Now, I cleaned all that down a month ago and tightened the jubilee clips so it should have been dry. Want to take the short hose off to inspect more closely but no idea how to get it off and can’t find anything in the workshop manual or on YouTube.

Anyone got any pointers or even a guide?

Appreciated, as aside from getting fed up of this now, we are heading to Cornwall on Saturday, and I don’t fancy my chances right now.

Andy

Have you checked the other turbo hose froward of the short one?.. Its a fiddly job to change the small one, you need to undo the mounting bolts that hold the metal pipe that the small hose fits to and the other hose at the other end, its just a case of wriggling it out then.

Flack Thumbs Up

Thought that sounded familiar.

Don’t suppose anyone has any more comments about the pic I posted?

Can’t feel a split or defect anywhere. Could it be the jubilee clips just aren’t tight enough? Is there a torque setting for them?

Hi andy

I had the same in what @flack was mentioning , the horizontal hose on the left , I had oil around that hose and had limp mode

The clip on mine was broke and would tighten up, so managed to undonthe clip and fit a new one

The clips I also nipped up on the short hose

In ur first fault codes did u remove ur map sensor and is it nice and clean Thumbs Up

I replaced both the intercooler hoses with silicone ones and T bolt clamps , left the short one as it looked ok and know there fiddly to get out

Enclosed a pic

Pics showing when I removed the wheel arch liner when I fitted new struts and hose clamps

U can see that front metal pipe that I believe is the one that has to be undone to get the short hose out

Plus before I forget , if u end up removing ur plastic wheel arch liner u will see a small pushfit connector that goes to the FBH , is tucked away

Mine was leaking so bought a new one , is has dust covers over the end of the push fit coupling

Pipes either side of the coupling are , Bottom is metal , top is plastic

Had the MAP out about 2-3 months back. It was heavily gunked up so gave it a clean with some MAF sensor cleaner.

Haven’t checked it again, but plan on checking tomorrow or Thursday.

Will look to take the long and middle hoses off to check properly, but can I ask what clip it was that was broken?

My guessing is, if the short hose has a leak, it’s the hose running from the air filter to the turbo. So it may entrain some unfiltered air, but as it’s Peter o, a leak shouldn’t be much of an issue there as upstream of the turbo should tend to vacuum?

Wonder if that means the middle sized hose may be the problem, but the thought of wheel arch liner back off, and the heat shields, and the plastic covers for the intercooler ..... not feeling inspired at the moment!

Btw, GS, can’t see your photos ...... did you link them.

Hi andy

Pics should be there now, they disappeared for abit

As u look at the turbo, first picture , it’s the horizontal hose next to the short one , clip is mounted vertical , that was the one that was broke so wouldn’t tighten up and allowed a small amount of oil to come out

The clip screw is right below the short hose

Have seen a few threads where the left hand pipe next to the air filter splits

Did u blank ur egrs at the same time of cleaning out ur MAP sensor

EGRs came pre-blanked!

Was a parting shot from the guy I bought it from “oh by the way, forgot to mention' the EGRs have been blanked”

Thankfully, he kept the pipes so I can ‘fit’ them at some point, for appearances anyway.

GS,

Looking at your pics, the lower hose that had the broken clip, it has a pipe T-ing off from it a few cm later.

Any idea what that is, and I presume the replacement silicone hose had a junction to attach it to?

Oh, and got it wrong.

Looking at the workshop manual, and the short hose IS the outlet.

So, I will need to figure out how to release the metal pipe so as to release it and inspect properly.

Guess it’s the most most susceptible as it takes the pressure and the heat direct from the turbo.

Oh well.
