Ah, ok
The wing bolt earth is probably just as good, similar to how we all install dual battery set ups..

Hoping to add to this thread soon. Superwinch Talon purchased from forum member, mounting ordered from "Uncle Ray"
Will take lots of progress pics when I start. Hopefully with a bit of planning should get most of it done in a day as cannot leave it in pieces due to being daily runner.
Any advice on issues to plan for welcomed. Also ideas for the cable runs from solenoid to battery. Note: I have a later D4 with the Start/Stop system.Dorian Woolger

winch
I am watching with intense interest. In my garage at the moment is a D4 2010 model, ancRLD discreet winch mount and a Superwinch Tigershark which at some point in the December holidays need to be all joined up.
I am especially interested in how you pick up the live and negative terminals to the car.Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch ๐

I fitted a Superwinch Tigershark to my D3, positive and negative terminals go straight to cranking battery.
I remote mounted my solenoid and boxed the circuit breaker (hidden inside inner wing).

I didnโt need to rotate mine, made small cut out above handle to allow turning.
Because I have the bigger inter cooler, various mods were needed to the tray.

Yes I could see that the strap had been cut off the back. I like the idea of bolting the bracket on so that you can rig the wiring on the bench. I never thought of that but I will be doing it that way now.
No one has ever mentioned this but did you feel a difference to the driveing experiance once it was fitted? Any issues with the weight?Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch ๐

Yes, get all wiring sorted on the bench and in your head!
Think on a D4 you have to space the winch tray where it mounts to chassis - I had to do this on my D3 because of the bigger intercooler. I also cut corners off tray and rewelded to allow minimal trimming of the webbing inside the bumper.

My winch was not spoiling so you couldnโt pay out the rope by free spooling. I removed it, took it apart and cleaned it all up. There was a fair amount of corrosion, and a lot of cleaning to be done. I regressed it and now itโs smooooth!
I also got rid of all the corrosion on the tray (as it had to be removed anyway) and repainted it, so it should last forever now.

Which winch and battery set up
Hi all, looking for some advice. Which is a better winch to go for. I have a Superwinch Tiger shark and a Goodwinch TDS Goldfish. Both 9500lbs both had only light use, the tigershark I bought new and the TDS I bought second hand. Tiger shark was un blemished the TDS all corroded BUT now cleaned up.
ON PAPER the main difference is the TDS is slighty lighter and has a higer pullimg speed. The tiger shark has a sealed motor but the TDS has upgraded seals for the gearbox.
Real world tests seem in short supply, I found an Australian test to destruction on 10 winches and the TDS came out on top. I found some tests for the Tigershark and it won editors choice and has good reviews from users.
Only real thing that seems to stand out is that in every test the TRS pulled 30% more than its rating before it stalled. The Tiger shark just 3% more due to its overload protection. As a 9500 lb is a little light for a D4 I thought this an advantage however if the overload protects the Tiger Shark then its more likley to keep going when needed.
Other notable differences are the rooe thicknes is greater on the TDS but of course its Dynema which is hugley strong so the Tigershark rope will certianly be man enough for the job and has been up till now.
Other consideration is that its going into a discreet mount, the TDS will block more of the coolers than the Tiger shark.
If it helps my usage is very light and actually only ocassional self recovery. I use it more to move boats and pull out the odd bush. I still want best capability though.
Also my plan was to use a single battery set up but I have since aquired a second battery and planned to fit this BUT is it really needed, it seems a hassle to free up space in the second battery box and it is a lot of extra weight in the car. Would one be enough, it was in my D2Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch ๐

I have a tds on my Discovery albeit the 12500lb version, it fits the discreet mount and spares are readily available if required.
Only needed it a couple of times but itโs been good when needed.
