Slight surging when on cruise control

As above, long motorway journey yesterday down quiet M74 at c.80 mph and noticed a slight 'Kick' every now and then - not much, but noticeable - but not apparent at a higher speed or when not on cc - thoughts?

I've occasionally felt a slight hesitation when cruising on control for long periods... feels a bit like the cars running out of fuel, and then everything returns to normal? Not much, just enough to wake you up every now and again!

Very strange?

If it was a fault with the clock spring, normally, it will switch off the CC.

Could just be your gearbox needing a reset? They can get a bit lazy especially if the engine isn't breathing fully, like a blocked air filter or the intercooler being more blocked than you'd want etc.

Mine has done it twice, in 20k miles. Only happened at 75-80.

Just a cough for a split second, then back to normal. Never logged any codes, no lights came on. Just ignored it Whistle

I used the cruise control on Wednesday and when I pressed the decrease set speed button, the set speed actually went up ! I've had this happen before and while it's amusing, I'm not entirely sure it's what LR intended. Fortunately, I've never had to use the same buttons to control HDC.

Adam and CC

It may be your throttle body but you don't detail MY or engine / gearbox details.

I had similar issues with hesitation at 75-80 or so and there is actually a Technical Bulletin on this issue, but only to be addressed if the customer raises it...

Hope this helps

Hi,

See here:

http://disco4com/forum/topic97621.html

It does sound like the throttle body issue some of us have had. I had the surging in CC, then eventually got a red triangle and the codes confirmed. Throttle body was replaced and it was back to normal.

Cheers

Alastair

Hi guys,

I've just started noticing this issue while driving around the neighbourhood at 30kmh on cruise control. The revs keep going up & down, with a slight surge of power.

What is very odd is that it seems to be worse when driving on a slight downhill?

I ran a scan and couldn't see any fault codes, and then I thought maybe it's a sticky EGR?

So this is what the EGR is doing at hot idle, does this look normal?

Appreciate any tips on where to start troubleshooting, thanks

Thread resurrection!

Not much help I'm afraid, but mine cured itself (and on congested UK Roads, CC not used a lot)

Sure someone with knowledge will be along soon Thumbs Up

I hope so, Adam.

Would you mind trying out the CC at around 30-40kmh and letting me know if the surging still happens?

thanks

one of the guys here recommended I try in manual mode to see what happens.

so I tried with manual gears and saw this only happens at low revs, +- 1200.

Anything over this and the CC works fine, so it's probably just a combination of low speed & revs and the ECU just not able to provide the precise amount of power to match the cruise speed perfectly.

For example, at 32kmh in 3rd, the revs are low and the car surges a bit. Drop down to 2nd, and no issues as the revs are higher.

Morning All,

I had this issue last night, revs at 2k doing about 75mph, just all of a sudden started to splutter, I booted it a little and it cleared it, no errors or anything.

puzzled really...lol
