Slippery road conditions
Do you select special programs for driving on normal roads in snowy conditions, and can you switch while in motion?

Yes you can switch on the move, if you try and do something really daft the car will ignore you. I only use GGS in extreme conditions, much more important for the driver to drive too the conditions. If the nut behind the wheel thinks they are invincible it doesn't matter what mode you're in it could easily end in tears.
PS Yes, this would be a good time to RTFM.

I had to go out in the snow on Sunday morning to work, and the it was deepish (8")
I put it in GGS, and for the first time really noticed a difference.
Much softer application of the throttle, much less intrusive abs, and seemingly tighter traction control.
It performed very well. New gearbox & TC, 3 x front wheel bearings, belts changed, new oil pump, new battery, new rear prop, new front prop, new front diff, front arb refurbed, front cv boot kit, egr blank and BAS software patch, full rear suspension / drivelive rebuild, new front arms, LED trailer light fix, split charge.
Never had a 107, 90 or 127, but have had most of the rest!

Yes GGS is great. The one thing that people forget in a Disco on ice is that it weighs nearly 3 tons and it only has 4 small patches of rubber to slow it down. Electronics help but they canna change the laws of physics!
If you go to Topix, is the manual not there to read for free?

I used GGS yesterday and today and the throttle and brake adaptations made a big difference. Used HDC too which was very reassuring. I was probably way over cautious but I’d rather that than be looking for a tow out of ditch, or worse.
D4 manual here. Lots of similarities with the D3 but obviously some differences.
Engine Management System.
More progressive throttle map to make it harder to induce wheel spin when setting off & easier to drive smoothly.
Automatic Gearbox.
Automatically sets off in 2nd gear in high range to make it harder to induce wheel slip when setting off.
Automatically selects 3rd gear in low range to make it harder to induce wheel slip when setting off.
Electronic Centre/Rear Differential.
Higher preload settings to reduce the chance of wheel slip occuring.
Hill Descent Control.
HDC is automatically switched on when in low range.
Traction Control.
Has a more responsive & aggressive tune so that if any wheel slip does occur, then it is controlled quickly.
Message Centre.
If a manual gearbox is fitted then the drive is advised to set off in 3rd gear if in low range when a different gear is selected.MY16 D4 Graphite in Loire Blue
