Small coolant loss and soot on exhausts

Hi, had to top up the coolant at the weekend with about 1l after low warning came on, checked level this morning and it’s dropped again to the lower level guide.
Looking around for signs of leak but nothing obvious.
But is this normal on the exhausts, never noticed the black buildup before.
Any advice welcome.
