Smartkey Issues

Hello all,
Hope you are all well.

I have just bought a 2015 D4 to replace my own aging 2011 D4, mostly as it has done 130000 less miles.

All seems fairly well with the small matter that it doesn't seem to want to recognise the keys most of the time.

Initially for one of them it gave the warning of low battery, so I duly replaced them in both.

Now, unless I hold the key under the steering column it won't pick up either.

The person who I bought it off said older batteries in the fobs seem to work better even if with a low battery warning. I am inclined to think this isn't the best way forward though.

I've looked at some other posts and I don't have the key near my phone and no, leaving it 5 minutes or rubbing it didn't work either.

As ever, any help and advice will be very much appreciated.

(Quite glad I decided to keep my older Disco for a few weeks.......). Neutral

Thank you.

Some have said using Duracell batteries can solve the problem.

Hi, unfortunately not I am afraid.

They are Duracell CR2032. For my older Disco I had Energizer ones but all worked fine on that anyway.

But thank you anyway.

Also maybe worth quick check that the springy battery contacts, where they touch the lithium cell, are really clean and pressing firmly onto the cell ? Otherwise you could have a poor electrical contact between the key fob and its battery .............

Firstly, if placing the fob under the steering wheel column, there is no reliance on the fob battery.
Secondly, any high quality name brand battery will suffice, provided it is not beyond the expiry date or depleted.
Thirdly, and most importantly, had the fob not be recognized under the column, there are a few possible culprits:
- dead battery in vehicle.
- fob (security key) not recognized by security system.
- security system failure.

What codes are being thrown.

Reference to a similiar issue I had in the past. Not the first thing to check but if all the obvious things checks out...
