Smoke on very heavy acceleration |
|
I usually drive like miss daisy, but yesterday really (i mean really) booted it (full snap kickdown, hard on the floor) - plume of smoke, did it again couple of times after - nothing
Do you think I've just blown a load of gunk out from hardly ever getting much above 2k revs?
Normal to harsh (ish) acceleration - never any smoke

I would say you are correct. However, there do seem to be a few reports on here of smokin' D4's. Might be worth reporting.

Thanks Gareth - on the odd occasion I booted my D3, I recalled it smoked, but nothing significant

Well you'd expect a bit of wear on a six year old car........ a 2005 D4

Just done 400 miles in 2 days and not one bit of smoke
Hard miles too !!!!
I've read the tales, so i made it my mission to look for any signs of smoke
My last car was a 2007 3.0D V6 Espace and it smoked like crazy when i booted it, so does my Mrs Beetle TDi

Was driving up M5 yesterday - accelerating smoothly to v. high engine speeds - no smoke. not a wisp - only happened when I snapped the pedal down through kickdown very hard and fast

try doing the same but using command shift.
havnt noticed the problem on the D4, but the D3 smokes a bit when auto kick down. if I use command shift , not a hint of smoke.
i assume its something to do with the engine getting fully fuelled at the same time as it drops a couple of gears and it doesnt all get burnt off. just a guesss as I am not an expert and have no idea really !! Duncan

New to the forum and have a D4 that smokes on kickdown (and mpg deteriorating). I see some other threads refer to split inter cooler hoses. I haven't found the latter yet but can anyone point me in the direction of other related threads? Cheers

Thanks - can anyone comment on whether the EGR still an issue on the D4 then?
My D4 only smoke (blue) on occasional kickdown - a big old puff out the back as I leave a roundabout for eg and then clear as I accelerate. Feel like a battleship laying down a smoke screen and then scarpering

Has it had the turbos drain modification done? That certainly seemed to improve mine significantly, and it now only seems to do it when I've been very gentle for some time, and then give it some beans which clears the tubes.

Nice Thread revival from over 3 years ago!
Still in same D4, with about another 54K miles on the clock.
Still the same - if I'm on a long journey, give it a real boot - smokes - then nothing for duration - no matter how hard I accelerate, no worse than previous - in fact slightly better - though that might be my imagination.
Can't comment on the EGR point on D4's - though I hope they are improved as they went on my D3 at a similar mileage to the current D4.
I'm a regular 2ST user - so I hope that will assist in their life
