Re: Smoking D3 - fueling issue?? |

Surely that is the problem and the answer???
what causes a diesel to misfire if it's a compression engine? a petrol engine could be sparkplugs, sparkleads etc etc. just wondered if there could be an issue with compression especially as you state you have checked and swapped injectors around but still have issue on #5 ..... Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

From what you have said the issue is with cylinder No5. Can't see why butyng/swapping out all 6 will make any difference. If this were a petrol engine I would be looking at the plug/plug lead etc that feeds cyl 5 - therefore I would think it is an electrical/electronic issue with the signal to injector no 5 - especially if it has already been renewed! Might be a fueling issue to that one injector too - or as said above the ECU - especially as it is this I guess that the fault codes get read from and I don't suppose it can properly differentiate between the physical injector and the 'logic' that actually drives it?. I am no expert here but if the compression is down on cyl that might explain the smoke (unburnt fuel) but would that give the fault code for the injector - probably not?
Good luck with it and let us know how you get on.
Nice collection of machine on your front path by the way - I guess you do some trialling

Had Fault codes read............ again................
P2290 ???
Been advised maybe Injector control pressure could be low?
Should I try a new sensor?

P229000
Injector Control Pressure Too
Low
Fuel pressure control
valve (FPCV) maximum
limit reached
Fuel injector control
pressure too low
Fuel line leak
Fuel filter/system
restriction
FPCV circuit fault
FPCV failure
Fuel pump module circuit
short circuit to ground
Fuel pump module failure
Fuel injection pump failure
Check the fuel pressure, refer to the
relevant section of the workshop
manual. Check the fuel pump module
circuits and the FPCV circuits. Refer to
the electrical guides. For FPCV and fuel
injection pump, refer to the relevant
workshop manual section.
Personally i'd check the HP fuel pump for wear / leaks around the spindle before anything else

Dan ,
Bring it back down and we will do some tests and investigation.
We should see a rail pressure of 1600bar @ 4000rpm ill need to dig out the idle pressures.
And a fuel leak off of 50kPa.
Bare in mind that your car has had a Fearn tune on from new so there is a possibility that as 10forcash is saying the uel pump is warn if the rail pressure request is higher than what the pump is safe of giving @ 1650bar for 10hrs max
Im sure with all the pointers on the forum between us all we can find the fault, what 10forcash is saying seems plausible and could be the answer/suggestion needed.
That is why forums are so good for things like this, not every man knows 100% of faults that can occure on every model so the forum helps to find the answers faster.

At last!!
Problem solved.....
Drives and sounds like a new 'un
Fitted another engine.......... All is now good!
Will be stripping old unit for spares and investigation.
Big thanks to Pete at Bell Auto Services for the use of his garage and ramp for the 2 days!
And as much tea as I could drink! Top man!
Pics of changing engine will be posted up soon. Was done without body or gearbox removal!
Happy Days! 200 Tdi Project.

Your welcome Dan,
There is no need to thank me your always welcome as you know, you do eniough for me in return.
and in this case you did 99% of the change lol.
As you say when we strip the old engine i think we will find the true answer and i strongly suspect a bent conrod.
It will be nice to prove that fault codes are not a final answer to a cars problem as many people think, and there can in some cases be another undelined fault causeing the problem which has nothing to do with the fault code read.
Time for a bore and stroke job on the old engine make a real engine lol.

Im unsure the full storey of when and where it went wrong originaly, it was was running rough got it.
I got it as a problem car knowing that it may need a engine eventualy or at least some major work.
After some initial testing and pulling at straws i always had a thaught that it had sucked some water in at some time on a Dakar event and done a conrod lowering compression causing this problem.

At least its not a LR problem, if it ingested water.
Peter, if the stock market recovers I might get one
of your remaps. I have another remap, but the fuel consumption has dropped
about 30% around town. It would be handy to be able to remove and replace it at will Pete
