Smoking D3 - fueling issue??
Hello all,
Still new here, hoping this post goes in the correct place??
My D3 has a slight misfire on idle. Causing a bit of diesel smelling smoke (actually a lot!)
When the revs are raised to 1000 rpm or so, or when driving normal, there is no smoke at all.
This problem seems more obvious now as I have fitted a De-cat front pipe. - therefore I can only assume the unburned diesel is exiting the exhaust quicker?
When the cat was fitted, it did the same but would take a minute or 2 for the smoke to appear.
This would be pointing me towards a faulty injector(s)??
Short of having a new full set in, is there anything else that can be tried?
The car has had a full service - all filters changed with genuine items.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
Dan.
Never looks good - a D3 with smoke blowing out everywhere!
My camera usually takes good photo's - just shows how much smoke is coming out....... 200 Tdi Project.

The smoke looks much whiter than mine did, but possibly EGR trouble

When's the last time the air-filter was changed, i.e. not just supposed to be changed - might be worth checking it.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Surely that is the problem and the answer???
If you're having a misfire, some diesel would not be getting burned in the cylinder but exiting in the turbo/exhaust system?
Whatever, I'd get the misfire sorted first and then see where you are.I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

That is the problem - the misfire causes the smoking on idle.
But now where do i start looking???
Air filter looked ok - will have a new one just for piece of mind.
Hopefully it can't be terminal...... 200 Tdi Project.

I've had the car on IDS.
Had a fault on injector number 5.
Swapped them around, various times and cylinders, but fault still came back to number 5?
One new injector has been fitted to number 5 too.
It's done about 63000 miles - uses no oil.200 Tdi Project.

Hmm.... I'd say if YOU cann't fix it, then who can???
"At YLS we use Land Rover autologic diagnostic equipment and work to manufacturers service schedules in combination with 30 years automotive experience to provide you with the best possible and most reliable service for your vehicle. We know everything there is to know about the full range of Land Rovers."
Wouldn't even dream of then asking you to try Armstrong Massey!!
But you did come to the best place here.
Hope we can get an answer for you.

I only Advertise for YLS - and Paul (owner) had a spare number plate.
Autologic didn't shed much light on the matter.
Just wonder if anyone else has had any similar issues - or do i bite the bullet and buy 6 injectors??? 200 Tdi Project.

Have you checked the hoses at the top of the engine, Intercooler ones I think. These have been known to fail, delaminate and split. This causes smoking too. Just an idea as you probably checked everthing conceivable, may as well check those too.
