A D3 fridge on a D4 is no problem as the D4 only runs the fridge with the ignition on. The other way round is a problem as the D4 fridge has no voltage sensor to shut it down in the D3, which will be live permanently.

and just to confirm this is the correct fridge for the usb ports in the lid? I assume that's what the small cut out at the back is for?
I've been looking for one on ebay for a while, but they all seem to be without this cut out:

It out was originally for the phone kit wiring in the D3. ISTR there was 2 versions, one with cut out, one without. I can't remember if my D4 cooler has a cut out, will have a mooch tomorrow.

I have one of those trays but never used it. If I want to grab a can of Coke or chocie bar when driving I don't want the hassle of that getting in the way. I know it's meant to help with insulation but have survived without it.

Yep, that looks like the wiring for the USB thingie in the lid. Forgot about that as never use it.
