Could somebody help - Nottingham area?

Hi All,

I've got to collect something from the Nottingham area shortly - essentially it's a big steel box that weighs around 100Kg and needs to be raised up sufficiently so that it can be slid into the back of my Disco3. I've look to beg, borrow or steal a scissor lift trolley, or similar, locally but without success.

Would there be any forum members here from the Nottingham area who would have a scissor lift trolley that I might borrow, or who would be prepared to RV at the pick up location so it can be used in situ. In either case I'll worry about getting the item out of the vehicle at home later on.

A contribution of beer tokens will, of course, be made if someone can oblige. Very Happy

Many thanks.

Nick

Take a couple of builder like planks and slide it up. Will need a bit of muscle as well !

Yup . . . . I have thought about taking along, or arranging for some extra muscles to be present, and this may be plan B if I can't source a lifting device.

I'm currently recovering from my latest episode of a bulged lower disc (about four weeks ago), which generally leaves me immobile, and so I ain't about to start humping heavy weights - just yet. Laughing Laughing

fair point, I was going to offer an extra pair of hands to lift it in, but my back is a bit dodgy too...... thanks to lifting too much heavy stuff into Land Rovers when I was in the army Laughing

let me know if you need help though

Army? Ain't they just responsible for so many knackered backs and knee joints in older age? I use to do it at weekends for many years, and even then I'm pretty sure some of the kit that was loaded on to us had long term effects. As I recollected once, if you were unlucky enough to kop the A41, and had to carry that in addition to your own personal kit, I don't care how fit you were . . . . you weren't going anywhere in a hurry with that lot on board. Nick - don't lift it with a bulging disc please. I had L5-S1 "blow" and was on the floor for months. I now get others to lift. Microdiscectomy helped but still not 100%.

Noted. I'm fully aware of the potential for damage; many years ago I saw a really switched on chiropractor who not only poked and prodded but spent time explaining the intricacies of the physiology. Since that episode I am now very conscious of the potential to over-stress the lower spine and think about things like lifting more carefully than "wen I woz yung". Funny thing is the last "pop" was caused by leaning over to pick out a pair of socks from the top drawer of a chest - the first ever instance it was ironing a shirt and that was when I was still wearing baggy green skin most weekends (over 25 years ago).

I blame a mix of lifting LAnd Rover gearboxes and scuba diving tanks when young. Hindsight Big Cry

Maybe an engine lift crane with tight straps would lift and roll it into the back?
Then out at other end?
good luck. neil
