Somewhere to stop overnight with car and caravan

Hi.

I M taking the family to France this year and as I am travelling from Lancashire with the car and tin tent I was looking for n overnight stop on the way to the tunnel, looked at a hotel on the M20 but not much in the way of parking for a car and caravan, the van is 6.8m long. Any suggestions? Thumbs Up

Excuse my ignorance as I haven't got a caravan.

Isn't it the norm to sleep in the van & not lug it around all day then book into a hotel at night? Confused

Thumbs Up

Yeah you should sleep in it, however as we are taking it to France and taking the in-laws luggage 3 bikes and other stuff the inside would be quite full, so sleeping inside for this short stop is not a viable option.
I was just looking to get a few hours sleep befodriving another 6hrs to the Vendee.

Not wishing to rain on your parade, but if you've got so much in the caravan, i would seriously consider taking it to a weighbridge before you depart for France. It's surprising how little caravans can carry.

I would go with the suggestions re sites near Dover. There is no way I would leave a caravan full of holiday gear outside any hotel, absolutely no way!! Big risk of theft either of it or from it. Also endorse the comment re weighing. The first time we went to France, many years ago, we had a caravan with an Overall Gross weight of 16cwt. I took it to local weighbridge. It was 20cwt(1 ton).

Thanks, the caravan has a healthy payload plus the boot of the Disco. I think I will have to do the run in one hit, wouldn't get to a site till around 11pm.
Thanks for the advice. Thumbs Up
