You need someone to pull the cable down while you unwind it. Do not just unwind or the whole thing will jam. I ended getting out LR assistance.

I use a bungy strap and have a rope attached around a bollard to keep it tight against the wire.
Keep the bungy tight and it should be OK, just be careful as it may have already wound itself in a mess.Bodsys Brake Bible
