You paid too much. Paid R 700 at Dover parts for the LR spec ones
Hi did you get NGKs or was it champions. If its the champions, what's your experience with it. The guys fitted champions to my car at the last service and at the moment my car is much heavier on fuel than it was before the service - only get about 430 kms on a tank wheras I got more than 500kms in the past. Thats in town driving.

Hi Croucher, Iridium wasn't the ones Dover tried to sell me. They were Platinum plugs which had the appearance of a standard plug that I have always used in my previous cars. The Iridium plug has a centre electrode which looks like a pin - very small diameter at the end. Dover must have picked up the wrong ones for me then.

The old plugs were very good, slightly coloured yellow with some signs of black dust on end ring. They were a little wet but I expected this as I have almost completed a major service and spent two days on it with stop/start to take her out of garage and reverse back in etc, during this time. There was zero erosion and all plugs still measured exact gaps. This is my first experience of Iridium plugs but the old ones looked so good I've kept them for possible future use due to cost - R1600 / 8.
Further info' I found is that the Iridium plug requires less power to run than "other" types although I see that LR do allow "others" to be used but change times are reduced. Don't think I would like to be in middle of Bots and missfires start.
To change the plugs I had to make special tool - modified standard 3/8 socket bits - No 2 and 7 plugs needed further modification in length due to less accessability but all went well - The standard 3/8 x 16mm plug socket was just right to fit the plugs and was great at starting the thread on new ones as it fitted the entry hole and lined the plug up well. The rubber gripper within the socket I used was just right - not too much grip, just enough to lift plug out of deep reccess. I used "Mastercraft" set.
This Jag engine is a b....y great unit to work on ( if you are not in hurry !).

Cheers decided I would put it into our local indy who found the problem was burnt out exhaust valves which they sorted but a small sliver of ally got into the oil and got stuck in the oil pump pressure valve (I think that's what they said) so the oil was pumped up and went straight back into sump thus starving engine of oil upshot was they had to fit a new engine so problem solved now no need for new plugs for a while G4 D3 4.4 V8, "tigger" all year round toy
