$275 from here - http://www.roverconnection.com/LR3/lr3_KNB500023.htm

Still outrageous!

What about your mate Hodgesaarth? It's the kind of thing that a small machine shop could knock out without blinking (well - a bracket mounting on the same chassis points with a 2" square tube at the other end).

not as simple as that... the demountable bit is cast and has an interlock mechanism, plus it would have to be type approved and load-tested. I think the coupling that forms part of the 'rigid' tow-bar is very similar

Depends on whether you want a demountable or fixed bracket, and for what purpose you require the bracket.

If it's for bike rack use, then a basic fixed jobby would suffice -less than 100 lbs load in all probability

the fixed tow bar kit has a part that uses the demountable socket, there are no alternative fixing points, other than the forward supports

No the patent on the hitch prevents that, otherwise it would have been made by now don't worry.

Tow Bar

Mine quotes £165 +vat which I guess is the same.

They are in stock @ the factory.

I had the NAS spec rear tow set up on my TD5.
The receiver bit is very convenient but the bit that goes in the hole can be very sloppy and there is no means of tightening the fit.

I had to drill & tap the 2 inch receiver and put a bolt in to stop the tow bar rattleing when in use for towing the caravan.

The other problem is CE approval & the issues that this may create with insurance in the even of a claim.

To date I have seen bkie racks, cargo trays, clay pigeon launchers, bar-b-ques, access ramps and all sorts used in the receiver. Not seen the porta potty version yet.

Regards
