Split charge system

Can I fit a split charge system to a D3 or will the voltage change kill the clever electronics?

Yes you can - and very easy it is too.

If you run a search you will get some ideas.

One of the simplest routes is to buy a kit from Traxide. Based in Australia but ship to UK (and Luxembourg... Laughing ). D3 specific kits with all the cables, plugs and detailed instructions etc. Give them a call (speak with Tim) or you can drop him a pm/e-mail from here (forum name is drivesafe). And I think this kit was developed in conjunction with LR Oz.

NoDo$h has made his own split charge set up - search under his forum name and you should find the thread that lists the bits.

Or contact 10forcash (Iain) - UK roving LR independent - and he installs split charge systems as well. As well as a multitude of other items...
The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

Welcome to the site Camel!

Yep, wot's been said above Thumbs Up

Traxide kit is a doddle to fit if you only go for the split charger, a little more of a pain to thread cabling to the rear if you opt for the rear power sockets but still not rocket science IMHO (even I did it eventually Laughing ).

User methley also has quite a few pics in his gallery of his custom rear power setup, you may want to have a look there too Smile

Tim is really helpful and the instructions they have are really good. Thumbs Up

Plus there is a big battery sized hole on the drivers side under the bonnet, where the battery would on a LHD - order up the battery brackets for a LHD and it bolts right in.

Look for big thread on group buy 18 months or so back for lots of pictures, pics of my setup in this thread:

Yep, but shipping from Australia (after its been shipped there from the UK originally) was not cost effective compared to getting NoDo$h to bring them from Yeovil to the pub for D3 meet Wink

No doubt Paul, just stating the package contents if one were to go with the Traxide Bow down

TBH, I think it turns out cheaper (no by too much though) to get the parts in the UK if one were to fit the rear power point(s). Not sure on split charger costs...

In my case, it was a LOT cheaper to get the whole lot from Tim (including the SC-80) than buy the parts in Greece - go figure Rolling Eyes

Can't make any pub meets anyway... Big Cry

Who's that then?

I'm not worried about fitting it, just killing a ECU or two with a voltage spike with a simple reley setup.

Some say he has EP90 for blood and eats Electronic Park Brakes for breakfast. All we know is he's called 10forCash

Drop him an EMAIL (not a PM) via that link and he'll sort it for you. He's a site sponsor, lives in your neck of the woods and knows his way around Land Rovers like he was born in one.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Clearly NoDo$h knows something about TFC's heritage more than the rest of us!

Can always use a diode to stop relay backlash spiking things...

I support the Traxide approach. I fitted it to my D3 without problems.

A great kit. Thumbs Up
