Spongy Brake Pedal
I've just had my second service and was relieved of £120 for "cleaning" the EPB wheel assembly. I'm told by the dealer that this a contentious issue but LR won't pay for it under warranty. The EPB was jamming on incidentally (and squealing).
Since I got the vehicle back, I notice that I have to pump the brake pedal a couple of times to get full efficiency (solid feel). My question is, in the stripping and cleaning and re-assembling of the EPB, will the mechanics have had to disconnect the hydraulic feed to the disc brake calipers and therefore go through the bleed procedure on re-assembly?
I've had a letter from the garage asking me for feedback on the service inviting me to ring them with comments. I did, and explained this and I could sense the guy on the other end of the phone wriggling. Maybe he doesn't know enough about it and maybe I'm on dodgy ground. Anyone give a steer on this please?

No disconnect of the brake pipe, but they will have had to remove the caliper and secure it out of the way to get the disc off. If they took the pads out, and did not put them back in the same place, then a spongy pedal could result IMO.
I did this job yesterday on mine, and noticed the same thing. The caliper has to be removed to allow the disk to be taken off, but the hydraulic line doesn't need to be disconnected. To re-fit the caliper the piston needs to be pressed in to give enough clearance, which may be the cause of the 'spongy' feeling. If it still doesn't feel right after a few miles of driving then maybe best to take it back, or try bleeding the rear calipers.

I'm told now by the dealer that it could be the master cylinder failing and they want the vehicle back for further checks. They reckon that nothing they did during the strip and re-assembly of the EPB mechanism could have had any bearing on it.
It won't be until after Christmas now. I'll report back.
