Maybe it's a handy paper towel dispenser for when checking if the spare wheel's been nicked.

I'm afraid it looks like a poorly blinged-up footballer's Range Rover.
Wife's Evoque was parked in our church car park. I thought someone else had bought another red Evoque and parked next to hers. Only after a few minutes did I realise it was a DS.
I fear for the new Defender.

Still like the look of it in some shots I'm not giving up hope.
I wouldn't mind a range rover estate luxury up front and practicality at the back would be perfect MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Hah. Couldn't agree more. Wife just saw the pic and commented that it looks like it has a tumour growing out the back...

Don't you just love the hypocrisy. People hate the Disco Sport, but love the Disco 5, I am stuffed if I know where the difference is between the two or indeed the Ewoke etc.

Don't think it's hypocrisy I think it's a size thing. The evoke is rubbish but the FFRR and RRS look great they have a size and presence to them. Looking at the shots of it on the road against other cars this thing is huge and has height too which I think will make it have a very different feel to the disco sport in the flesh.
As with any car colour and details make it, the shot of the 2.0l in grey with those wheels looked promising. The disco sport is low down and compact unlike the disco we know and love. They should have called it a free lander and maybe we wouldn't dislike it so much
I'm not giving up hope, if this car doesn't do it for me it will be a disaster MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

The chassis, the front, the stepped roof, size, superior engine the differences are endless.
The hatred towards the DS is the price over the Fl2 and the fact that the Fl2 was just a far better Land Rover in general.
The problem I now have is my hours at work are getting cut, so new D5 out the window and my current one will have to go soon as lower hours makes the monthly budget a bit tighter. Evoque bit too small and I ain't going back to a DS, in days gone by it would've been the old faithful Fl2 on the shopping list.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

the stepped roof
On the one I saw the stepped roof was very slight... almost a styling exercise. Because the overall roof line drops to the rear (like the DS) I'd be surprised if the tail is any higher than the top of the front window?
(happy to be corrected when people measure it - as I'm sure they will)

The roofline has a very slight step due to the 3rd row seating.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
