Spotted OE66 ###
M6 this morning at 07:15
First one I've seen in the flesh and I'm not sure I like it, I was driving a FFRR and it loomed up behind me its headlights almost seemed level with my wing mirrors and are very distinctive, it's a big car as we all know but from the front and side it's huge, the back... well I'm not so sure, the number plate? It just looks odd set on one side like it is just looks daft, and you can see right up underneath almost like something's been forgotten, either I get used to the off set number plate or it's going to have to be a none starter.
With the D3 the off set number plate didn't even need consideration, it's split tailgate with the excentuated curve of the glass and the upper part of the tailgate made its place on the near side seem natural, as well as the square shaped plate with a nod towards a bit of LR's past and the previous 5 defenders I'd owned all had it in the same place.
I hated those Alfas from a few years ago, some one clearly designed the front end and when it went off for authorisation some one went "you forgot about the number plate ya numpty" hey presto, screw it to the front side below the headlight and we can pretend it's niche.
First impressions on the road then are purposeful as you would expect from the size of the thing. I've yet to sit in it and looking forward to driving one.Only dead fish go with the Flow !

The offset number plat annoys me to - never liked it on the Korean big offroader that had it. At least on the D3/D4 it is fully offset but this destroys the symmetry.
I've got a short registration number (4 characters) and wonder if it would fit on a short plate as far right as normal and look better? Anyway looking forward to seeing the cars when they arrive at dealers.2014MY Discovery

I wonder if you could get a square number plate to fit, especially as I've got a short one?
Are they physically bigger than a FFRR ?
Edit: Short number plate Peter

I'm not sure about number plate shortened as it will expose the void over the one side.
As for size, I'm not sure they are any bigger but the headlights are mounted high, they have the 3 LED bars as main beam and are quite slitty which makes them look higher. It has a small step up towards the rear on the roof like all other discos which gives it a taller appearance which makes it appear bigger than a FFRR to me any way.
Even from a distance it looked big, the one thing that did stand out was the full size spare under is visible in that you can see the whole inner rim exposed and as it was brand new you could see the whole silver wide inner part, looks like something was missing. You could see right up it's frockOnly dead fish go with the Flow !

Would be rude not to keep Uncle Ray in the manner he's become accustomed to.

Couldn't agree more. As the car doesn't have a split tailgate why the hell did they decide to offset the numberplate. It just looks fugly I have desperately tried to like it and lurk on this site constantly hoping to see a picture of one that I like - still no luck though. Front end ok - back end looks like something a Brazilian plastic surgeon has got his hands on (and this is coming from one of those school run mums with two kids at a prep school and two lurchers in tow!).My16 HSE Landmark - 2016 - Current. The DISCOVERY letters look too large IMO, reminds me of some USA vehicles with large badges. Maybe that's the look they want for the US market?
Or perhaps they just appear bigger on a white vehicle.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Flapper, what does it say on those black stickers ? Is it dealer bumph or what ?
And, based on the fact that it looks 95% like a Disco Sport "The worst car" I've ever had the displeasure of owning I think I'll leave it well alone. I do like the aesetics of a car, Golf's, RS4, Defenders, D3, have all drawn me in by their looks, it's what appeals to me. The D3 is hands down the best car I've ever owned. Maybe I should buy another?Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Actually a small plate might look best offset to the LHS looking at those photos but I agree with others, in that the offset plate and fake split tailgate wave shape was not necessary - it looks unappealing.
I followed a Disco Sport for a while today and that has a clean symmetrical rear end - much nicer.2014MY Discovery

Agreed, the rear end of. RRS is also very appealing.
The window curve was a feature of the original, it stayed on the D3 albeit the drop changed sides from Off side to near side for reasons known to the bloke who prob designed this "supposedly to aid tow hitch reversing" this I'm afraid is just a take, a bit like the fake vents in the side or like the fake vents on the RRS or evoke bonnet, useless.Only dead fish go with the Flow !
