Spun bearing
Got 6 miles today with empty trailer and heard tapping sound from engine. Turned around and drove carefully home. Disco still going, not seized, but tapping now louder. This Disco has always been serviced at 6,000 miles with top grade oil, and any necessary preventative work carried out.
Everything on this 2007 SE works. I have enjoyed using this vehicle but no more. Confidence gone.
Anyone interested in a reasonable condition D3 with two sets of wheels and a new set of GG3s, both recon diffs and a number of other parts?
PM me if interested. I'm in Cornwall. Would be able to trailer it to you within the next week or so.
I've no inclination to break it myself and sell the parts, unless someone's interested, it's off to the breakers. 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Sounds just like Dark Bluie when she died. Yep, another one bites the dust.
But Geoff's oil wasn't contaminated with McDonald's grease oozing in through every orifice and gasket. .

Hi Disco 6. Sorry, the wheels are 18". One set with no tyres are 10 spoke SE, the others are 5 spoke S wheels with almost new GG AT3s. I'm already in discussion with someone regarding the whole vehicle.2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Me too Del!. I'm collecting a used XC90 next week. Had a look at X5, but nah.
My D3 was not thrashed, treated gently when engine cold (kept below 2,000 RPM), was given top quality oils every 6,000 miles, latest oil pump etc., etc. Ran on V - Plus fuel and still it gave up the ghost. Shame really, as when it was running there was nothing to beat it. Even now, all the ancillaries are working 100%,
climate control, radio, sat-nav, but there you go, It's a Disco 3 and I suppose plenty of warning was given.
I'll still pop in to the Disco 3 site every now and then to see what you guys (and gals) are up to and to enjoy all your comments and banter.2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

It does seem to be a complete lottery. Cars like ours that are looked after like they were family die an early death, and 166k for Dark Bluie is early in my eyes. Others abuse their cars to the point of criminality and they do galactic miles. Maybe there’s a moral in that.

PS Don’t worry about hanging around here, hopefully Martin doesn’t mind us rebels hanging out. We won’t use the “r” word too much.
