Steering issues.

Having had the wheels off and poked around a bit I have noted the rear upper wishbones are in need of replacement. There's a fair bit of top/bottom movement but nothing really in horizontal plane although you can see the rear wheels toeing out when braking at slow speeds.

On the road I get a fair bit of steering drift when the road surface angle changes as in tarmac ruts or lane changing. I also get some noticeable juddering when on the brakes at speeds over 30MPH.

Does anyone know if the wishbones could be the full cause of the road behaviour or am I looking for something further?

Juddering when breaking would point towards warped discs, I think it’s a fairly common problem

I thought that re disks, but I checked with a DTI and they run within tolerance. That got me thinking about wheel bearings which i haven't had a close look at but the wheels seem fairly solid when off the ground, i.e. no slap. I might just change the disks and pads anyway as I usually do with a new (used) car.

Must say I'm getting quite a shopping list Shocked

Rear uppers are noted for causing excessive tyre wear, put them at the top of your list followed by 4 wheel tracking and go from there Thumbs Up

Thanks. Rear tyres seem OK front right is definitely suffering excessively on the inside edge. I also notice a lot of input is required at motorway speeds.

Does anyone have an opinion on the options to replace suspension arms? After Market, OEM, Genuine?

My guess they’ve been swapped round, front to back, fronts usually wear on outside, rears on inside.

If you can SEE tyres toeing out under braking, then you really need it looking at.
The steering wander you're experiencing is highly likely to be caused the rear end wandering.
There's many a write up on here, and a good YouTube video of a guy doing a D3. Worth a search and a watch.

Had a steering wheel wobble on my wife's 330d and that turned out to be a sticky front caliper that you could really feel.

Yes, I know it's a bit of a lottery to start with so nothing is ruled out. Need to clear my tubes too.

All sorted.

New Upper rear wishbones, new rear pad's & disks and we found a debonded brake shoe also, so that was replaced. 4 1/2 hours Done.

Steering seems good and brake judder seems to have gone so I'm well pleased.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
