Mine sometimes makes a "noise" on start up, when I reverse out of my drive then turn full lock.

I have found if I make a more gentle turn I don’t get after which its ok, to me in my untrained mechanical brain its as if the fluid has filled what ever it has to fill and is then ok Embarassed

It should make a noise at the very limit of its lock (not a good idea to hold at this limit) with no real noise at any other position.

Under-bonnet washing can produce weird noises and slippage, to the point of defeating the power steering until it dries out.

As with all hydraulic systems there will be a fluid bypass to prevent pressure building up and causing a heap of problems.
When you have the steering on full lock it is on the physical stops and yet you, by holding it on full lock, is commanding it to go further, hence the noise of the fluid bypass.
I have noticed this on mine also when trying to do a sharp turn out of the drive or a u-turn in a street.
As previously mentioned it is not good to leave it on hard lock as the fluid will wear the pump vanes un-necessarily and the bypass valve as well.
Hope this helps.
