Hello
The steering wheel on our D3 is annoyingly slightly out to the right when going straight ahead which obviously increases at times with the camber on various roads. Importantly it does not pull to either the left or right, I had the tracking checked back in summer, it was again done at the end of October at the dealers when a bit of work was carried out.
I have a copy of the Land Rover technical details for four wheel alignment, a part of which recommends removing the steering wheel if more than 3 degress from straight ahead, and repositioning on the nearest spline to straight ahead. Call me cynical but I suspect the dealer skipped that part!
I suspect that at some point in its life prior to my ownership the wheel may have been removed and not put back in quite the right position, I know the car had the recall work done on the clock spring which I think involves removing the steering wheel. As I cannot be bothered to spend the best part of a day going back to the dealers I am considering removing the wheel and turning a spline to the left. I have removed the airbag previously when I changed the cruise control buttons, so that part does not worry me.
I would appreciate any views on my plans, how hard is it to do? Is there a torque setting for the steering wheel nut?
Cheers

Very easy job and you allready know how to pull the airbag.
You only need to disconnect the white connector. Put the wheel into the steer wheel lock when undoing the bolt. I tightened the bolt without a certain torque setting. CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Thanks for the advice, I seem to recall a number of people saying they have done this after replacing the wheel in their cars as its been a little out with the new wheel fitted.
How easy does the streering wheel actually come off?

Mine came off easily - no need for a puller as its a loose fit on the steering column splines

Cheers
Although I have been reading a few more threads on the subject, and there seems to be a center mark on the steering wheel. Its got me wondering if its advisable to do what I was planning to do, despite being mentioned on Land Rovers instructions on wheel alignment.
Any advice or thoughts?

Got mine 1 spline to the left. Don´t have any problems and I don´t see why it should cause a problem in the future. CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Again many thanks for that, either going to do it after work tomorrow or more likely Saturday morning as I dont really want to tackle it in the dark. Looking through other threads the torque setting is 63Nm.

After removing the airbag and the securing bolt, the wheel was already lined up with the centre mark. I tried moving it one spline to the left which meant on a straight road it was then out to the left so I put it back.
I am wondering if the cause of my problems could be the naff tyres fitted to the front of the car, they are not my choice but were on it when I bought the car. The rear tryes are Goodyear Wranglers, the front pair are Nexen Roadian which I hate. All four have about 7mm of tread left.
Could the front cheaper tyres be upsetting the steering and handling?

If you loosen the bolt down toward the bottom of the steering shaft there is actually enough play to adjust the steering wheel a bit.
You have to take off the bottom skid plates to get to it.

Recall another member having issues with Nexan tyres albeit 20's - you could be on the right track in sorting this......
