Stereo buttons problem

My D3 has some seemingly damaged buttons on the front panel. The Ff and Rw buttons appear to be disconnected/ floppy and won’t change the next track on the CD player, this in itself is not too big an issue as the steering wheel controls can do this. The radio came tuned with a few stations one of which was radio 4 so for the last few weeks I did not notice the same buttons tune radio stations. I could not tune into a frequency last night to receive a football commentary. Obviously this won’t do.....
Is it a known issue or more likely random damage and a new or used part/ radio/cd unit required? Is it easy enough to put in a double din head unit to work along with the Harmon Karon set up of amps etc in the car? Thanks, John.

tip 1) If you use a button either side of 0 *#

The display should change to _,__

you can then enter the freq. e.g 86.5
and store it if you wish. (useful for poor signal area's)

tip 2) I think if you get some action out of the failed buttons <>
you may then be able to use the steering wheel buttons to do freq changes rather than preset changes.

sometimes you can buy single buttons on ebay.
stocks are low

no it is not easy or cheap to install aftermarket on an HSE

So tip 1 use the # button

Tip 2 doesn’t work. I was thinking of a jag.

You have 4 buttons to change the frequency. 2 for manual.

Thank you for that.perfect advice for my situation. If I can tune and memorise the stations I need it’s all good. I’m not looking to have a new system. Good of you to post, john.
