Hi There
So i have been monitoring the Stereo situation over the summer and i have come to the conclusion that the resetting is linked directly the Temperature of the Cabin. The reason i am assuming this is that after driving for the whole summer in France and many long journey to Italy etc with the Aircon turned on and set at around 16 degrees the stereo has been fine. No Resetting at all. This all changes however when the D3 has been parked in sunlight throughout the day when temperature inside can get unto 30 degrees. I notice after starting the car and driving for a couple of minutes the stereo starts resetting until the zircon has brought the temperature of the dashboard down to a reasonable temp. I will monitor this over the winter period but i am certain that the resetting will be far more regular over winter due to not running the aircon as much and the internal cabin temperature being higher.
What i am unable to figure out is what component would be susceptible to heat increase like that which would trigger the resetting of the Stereo? Does the stereo han an internal cooling fan that could be faulty? as the aircon cool air passes directly behind the stereo could it be this that regulates the stereo temperature and stops the resets?
Let me know if any of you have any ideas.
Cheers

My stereo resets itself nearly every time I unlock the car, but only when I unlock it and not when driving

Well after putting up with this problem since I got the disco it looks like it's had enough! The stereo turned itself off yesterday (normal on a trip) however it stayed off and now refuses to restart. I've pulled the fuses and tried a hard reset to no avail. Unusually though this time the sat nav won't come on either. It's like I've lost power to the head unit. The discos in at a local independent LR specialist next week so I'll get them to have a quick butchers but my guess is the head unit or some other component has given up the goast. Does anyone have an old head unit kicking around they wish to sell? I Think I'm going to change this first and see where I go from there.

Hi All,
Have any of you taken the stereo out? I took mine out when I started having problems with my radio going into phone mode even though I don't have a phone module. I found on the back stereo it looked like some water had gotten in, I had to de-solder the connectors on the board and put them back again just to clean it. (still didn't fix the problem)
Maybe worth a look.

Hey all.
First time finding this forum but I have been putting up with this problem for about 2 or 3 years. Got to the end of my wits when the audio unit wouldn't power up and all the buttons fell off. For my unit (a CD400) I discovered that it wasn't so much to do with the cabin or dash board temperature but it was the heat from the ducts of the HVAC system behind the stereo. If I kept the heat all going to the screen or to my feet I was fine but as soon as sent flow to the dashboard the audio unit didn't like it.
I put in a cheep head unit as the CD400 is only a radio and CD machine and I could see the buttons falling off being an issue if I just got a CD400 again. After changing the whole head unit I still can't get power to it.
I am going down a different line of investigation and wouldn't mind hearing what everyone's thoughts are. I think the wiring loom containing the power cable (which is purple and runs from fuse 56 or 59 - off the top of my head but it begins with a 5?) has a break in it. Has anyone looked at this? Has anyone changed this out or done a continuity test on their?s I ordering a multimeter to try it out.
I thinking and again please tell me if you see errors, is that the heat that built up in the car on sunny days or through use of the heater on the HVAC damages the wiring loom and courses a problem. I know my symptoms aren't exactly the same as some you guys cos you seem to think if about 16 degrees C from the AC which brings yours on so I'm also considering there is a connected fault in the wiring loom which contains wires for both HVAC and audio cables.
Be good to know what head units everyone has who has experienced the problem too.

Alright so I bit the bullet and ordered a re-con head unit from Land Rover after a ring round several scrappys proved futile. I'm please to announce that I'm back in business! The stereo fires up now along with the sat nav and I have music once more. However this is not the end of my dramas as the re-con unit from Land Rover refuses to tune into any radio stations which left me thinking what else could go wrong! A friend came to my aid though in the form of D3 metropolis with the same head unit! A quick swap over confirmed my suspicions, the Land Rover supplied Re conditioned head unit is a duff one. Back to the stealer I go on Monday, fingers crossed the next one I get off them actually works.

Can someone please advise me what fuse to pull to shut down the stereo and sat nav ? Bored of doing hard resets and pulling the fuse will be an easier solution for my wife if both decide to stay on after shut down. Also does anyone know the model number for the hse integrated head unit ? Planning on buying one used, swapping it for mine and seeing if this stops the issues with everything staying on or doing random things. Thanks and promise i did search to no availJames favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

U0184-87 (27) Lost communication with audio unit
Sorry to reopen an old thread, but a mate came around over the weekend with a 2006 D3 HSE with a load of errors and a dead Audio system and sat nav - U0184-87 (27) Lost communication with audio unit - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
Also has a Body Control error - B1A93-93 (2F) Invalid roof position - Component failure - no operation
and
Ventilation B1B78-84 (2F) System pressure - Bus signal/message failure - signal is below allowable range
He has had 2 replacement Radio/CD Units fitted from an LR main Dealer but the problem keeps coming back
Reset the errors and did a hard reset but made no difference, he was told by the LR dealer that the next thing to do is a loom modification, and they wanted to charge him to investigate, despite the last two hifi units being charged plus labour to fit..
Any ideas would be appreciatedMust stop buying shiny toys....

curious as well.
My D3 2005 V8 HSE has a simular issue.
only the clock resets and the CD changer initializes again.
Radio in set to 87.5 (which is no channel)
But the presets are still there.
The D3 has had a body off repair.
before there where no issues.
So it could be a connector with bad contact.
or a ground wire with a bad contact.
