Sticky auto gear selector - 06 D3 HSE 40k |
|
My D3 appears to have developed a very stiff auto gear selector. So much so it can often appear to be in drive but it doesn't engage. A good tug back usually does the trick but my wife is very unhappy.
Anyone else come across similar - the gear shift problem not the unhappy wife

I have had this problem and it's an easy fix. There was a post on the site with pics but basically you drop the protection covers to allow access to the gearbox (is it an auto by the way?). I think it's on the passenger side you'll find a small pivot lever with the selector cable coming into it on the side of the box. There's a procedure to remove the cable from the pivot. For the ligfe of me I can't remember it. But I sprayed it a few times with WD40 had a cup of coffee and then worked the linkage back & fwd until free. The problem is basically rust build up in the pivot. Hope that helps. Cheers

Me thinks the title of the post might be a bit of a give-away

force the shift...it will bend the end of the selector cable....
I had to have mine changed...expensive BREXIT - done properly.

Thanks all, exactly as described. 1 hour, couple of brews, some free internet and £100 later new part attached and selector working like hot knife through butter!
