STOLEN - Gold D3 V8 in Perth |
|
Alas, what is probably one of the less fence-able D3's in Perth was stolen overnight. Similar to what Gordon had nearly a year ago, theives scaled 3m fence, broke into the house, took the keys, and stole my D3. Since it's the quiet V8 it didn't wake 3 neighbours whose bedrooms overlook the lane it went down. So if anyone around Perth sees a gold V8 HSE (only one in WA) rego 1CMP 345, with a black ARB which bar, and a spare tyre carrier (but no spare mounted on it) please call the WA police. Jim Dowell - D4 HSE TDi, 12,000 hydraulic winch & hidden winch mount, MTRs, TyreDog, Traxide 2 x aux battery system, fixed air compressor, Dolium roof rack, MitchHitch.

Jim,
My deepest sympathies - I will certainly keep a look-out. Mine was eventually found around the Kelmscott area, after being sighted in Martin. So if it's the same gang, might be worth a scout around.
Not what you need just before Christmas - scumbags

Once has a Nissan skyline stolen in the same way, broke in took keys and loaded the TV and other stuff from our palce and neighbours into the vehicle while eveyone in the house. Eventually got the car back undamaged.
Good luck with yours.

Gees Jim, what a b d of an act.
I guess the worst part is not being able to feel safe in your castle. I hope that safe feeling returns soon.

An update. My beloved D3 was found on the shore of Bibra Lake burnt to a crisp. Police think it was very professonally torched and not a sceric of anything is recoverable (but I still have "the plough" at home if anyone wants a really terrible trailer hitch. "Lucky we didn't hear and confront the guys while stealing it, as they are definitely willing to be violent", said the kind detective. (Please, my family doesn't now this and I don't want them to become anxious of what could have happened to us, so no one tell them! ). I'lll post a photo when I get one.
I've already been out to look at a D4 HSE TDi, so hopefully will be able to objectively find out if the 3.0 TDi does perform as well as the 4.4 V8.
Thanks every one for their colleagial and kind thoughts. It turns what are virtual friendships into true ones.
Oh - and I have to report: Due to an oversight by me, I initially insured my D3 for the full price as Agreed Value" cover, and haven't got around to reducing it. As the old one, and presumably the new one, are owned by my consulting company, I"ll the big investment rebate. With the insurance payout + the investment rebate I'll come out if this financially ahead by about $5k I'll believe it when the insurance cheque clears. It will no doubt to into the accounts of 4x4Intelligence, Mitchell Brother, Traxide, and GreenOvalExperience, etc to repla what was fried.

Unbelievable story but luckely insured properly! Probably not an experience you were waiting for but torching it eventually was the best thing they could have done. You don't want your car back smashed up and then have it repaired, do you?
A shiny new D4 might help you to get over it soon......
Looking forward to an old and new piccie. CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

I am very sorry to hear about the theft and torching of your D3. I thought Perth was a nice safe place and not the sh t we have in South Africa.
I hope the D4 shopping goes well

You're probably better off with the D3 convincingly written off - I had to argue with the insurers before they eventually agreed to write mine off - not a pleasant experience.
Any clues as to why such a professional outfit would go to the bother of stealing the car just to torch it? Was it used in another crime?
Cheers,

I live in Perth too and am really sorry to hear of your loss. Unfortunately, car stealing is a big activity here. I have just ordered a new D4 3 litre and have to wait until May 1 for delivery, so good luck with ordering your new one, and all the best for the festive season

Jim - FWIW... I have first hand experience on this matter. My daughter's car (owned by me) was recently stolen and used to transport stolen goods out of the garages of an apartment block. (Which was located about 60m across the road from a Police station!). The broke into the units front door (as they couldn't get into the secure garage), then into the car at 11pm, broke into garages and then proceeded to empty about 8 garages - over several hours and several return trips. This was all captured on CTV as well - but the quality was not quite good enough to ID anyone. They all had hoodies on to hide features, and wiped everything down when done.
Which leads to the car. When these scumbags finish - they torch the car - to remove any evidence and fingerprints. The police are useless - not enough evidence or motivation to catch thieves. I bet if there was a fine attached to the conviction, they would get off their lazy and do police work - instead of fining people.
Anyhow - I know how you feel.
Cheers,
Rob
