If it makes you feel any better I did exactly the same thing. I bought 2 cheap pouches, popped the key in, took it to the locked car and it opened. Thought the pouch was no good until I looked closer and then tried it with the key in the larger section.
God knows why they have made them with a section that is not protected!
I keep my spare in one permanently and the other key goes in one as soon as I get in the house.
A few times I have gone to take it out in the morning & found that I put it in the unprotected section by mistake. So annoying.
Gutted to hear about the stolen disco. Scum!

Interesting. Which one did you fit? Also how do you let the garage service the car, etc without giving away the PIN? Discovery 4 SDV6 HSE '65 - Projects in planning phase!
Discovery 4 SDV6 HSE '61 - gone
Discovery 3 Tdv6 HSE '56 - gone
Defender 90 Tomb Raider '51 - gone

Can you change the pin temporarily for a garage and change it back after servicing? I do this when the house alarm is serviced. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

It has a service mode it has to be put in service mode otherwise the dealer can not update any software.
I had a phone call from the dealer asking if I had some electronic device stopping the OBD plug from working. I thought if a dealer can not get in it must be secure. ...........One life live it..........

The ghost canbus immobiliser. It has to be fitted by a retailer and they seem to have thought of everything including someone ringing and asking for an emergency code. The only person who knows where it is fitted is the fitter and can be removed to another vehicle, it can not be scanned like a tracker as there is no power until the ignition is on.
Great bit of kit. ...........One life live it..........

I fitted an OBD port locking device to my D4. Which, as the car is now sold, is handily available on eBay. Not sure what the rules on plugging are but it's there if you do a quick search

I would surmise this probably relates to the MY18 vehicles... where they are measuring responses on the CAN bus network.... it would interfere as it is a component that has been added without the car being programmed for it...
It works admirably on my MY16 AB.....it definately won’t start without the right sequence of inputs prior...
Good bit of kit!
