Stoopid brake question....
Hi all, just wondering if I am missing something obvious before I get under the car again.....I've done a search on here but can't quite find what I'm experiencing.....
Disco 3 2.7 Auto 2007 57.....bought the car 2 weeks ago, drove it home 150 miles, no problems, had front tyres changed, car driving nicely....did the EGR blank mod.
Rear EPB module jammed due to poor brake shoe adjustment, followed the excellent thread on here for freeing it off, replaced rear discs, shoes, springs, retainers and pins, pads, carriers....only the calipers remained original and they pushed back easily.
Adjusted the brakes as per Bodsy's bible, all good I thought.
Drove it, heard an intermittent rubbingh from the offside rear, sounded like the brake shield rubbing the disc or something, I put it down to newness, did a few more miles and got the EPB, HDC, automatic transmission fault etc.....recycled it, happened again intermittently.
Took the car, had the codes read and cleared down, same faults on the dashboard again after a few miles......did the handbrake bedding in procedure (which I'd forgot to do initially)thinking the car might be looking for that after the EPB module reset.....faults still appearing intermittently......rubbing noise now only evident when turning right.
I should add that I gave the rear underside a good jetwashing, it was caked as the previous owner lived on a farm.
I've immediately thought of the battery and brake pedal switch - battery looks like a new Yuasa, was going to swap the brake switch from my other Disco (I've got 2, I like a challenge) to try to take that out of the equation.....The thing is the fault wasn't appearing before I had the EPB fault.
But I thought i'd ask if any of you think I've missed something obvious? Wondering if the rubbing could be the wheel speed sensor bits if i've disturbed them maybe ( I don't think I have)....
Or have I 'jetwashed' a fault into the elec plugs underneath maybe?
I had the same rubbing when I fitted new rob shoes, and it was getting hot so I knew it wasn’t right so I stripped it down and all was ok, go for a drive check to see if any one gets hotter than the others. As for the faults most of mine were down to a knackered battery that wasn’t holding a full chargeRange Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8 what a car

I did wonder if the shoes might be making the noise, but they are not getting hot and the car coasts freely enough......I've just swapped the brake switches over, going to give it a test run now.....

Hi Tomo47
I had a new battery in December along with an new alternator, i changed it again July/August time, that too was a Yuasa from work, i kept getting the same faults as you, i used the OBD voltage monitor on the vehicle, i could see that the new alternator was working too hard for too long, i also changed the BLS, after the new battery and BLS no more errors.
I beleive i had a dead cell in the battery, Yusas are a premium quality brand and we sell a huge amount without any problems, but thats not say that they are immune to issues, as a point of interest the battery would pass test including drop testing.
So in conclusion i cannot be 100% it's your battery, but is widely known that these vehicles don't like low voltage, mine was dropping to just under 12volts, when that happens i beleive error messages start happening.
Also of interest to some is it's heat that kills batteries, not the cold, the cold just usually shows up a weak battery. We sell as many batteries in the summer as winter if not more.
Hope my experiences help.Paul Redding

Thanks for your comments and help all,
Quick update - took the car for a run after swapping the brake switch (and re-seating the brake sensor plug just in case), no faults showing (I've cracked this, I thought - it was showing faults after a couple of miles previously) until after about 20 miles when cruising steadily at 70 on the motorway straight flat and level - all lights on again.
Pulled off, recycled it, faults disappeared, nothing on during the drive home. So now it's become even more intermittent which makes it harder to find....
I'll swap the battery from the other disco on to it next, the only thing that's stuck in my mind is that there were no faults till the EPB module fault and my subsequent brake component change....
I put new sliders and carriers on it, I'm going to pull the disc back off to have a looky inside, see if anything is rubbing....the temperature seems equal to the other wheels though after a run....

Well, disc off, nothing untoward to see, put it back on and did another adjustment of the park brake....quick drive shows the rubbing sound gone.....need a longer drive now to see if the faults still appear....

Another quick drive, no warnings (yet) but the noise is still there on hard right cornering....however I'm pretty sure after going around a roundabout 5 times and getting dizzy it's the shim/carriers that the brake pad lugs sit in just touching the dics as it deflects slightly....sort of a swssht swssht noise as the wheel rotates.....I hope you like my imitation
Job for tomorrow i think.....

Hi all, bit of an update, maybe one of you can shed some light 'cos I'm in the dark now....
Warning on again this morning, took it to the local Land Rover specialist who did a diagnostic.....couldn't find any faults, motored the park brake around a bit and reset everything.
On way home at 70, lights up again. Recycled it, bought a new battery, fitted, hard reset, brake switch changed.
Did it again at 50 on light throttle.
Started crying.
Got back home, decided to disconnect, bag and stow the rear brake pad wear sensor as I'd read something about them playing up, went for a run, nothing around town, lights up at 70 on light throttle on the motorway. Recycled, did about 5 miles town driving, nothing until I hit the motorway again, 2 more happenings at near 70, again on light throttle (by light, I mean feathering it, almost no throttle). Once more at 50 on dual carriageway....
It only seems to happen now at 50 or above on a very light throttle, almost over run really.....
Can the MAF or something have anything to do with it? I keep leaning back to the rear brakes because it's only been happening since I did the work back there, but thinking I can't see the wood for the trees maybe? Seems to be on very light throttle and over run though....
Sorry if I'm boring you all now.......but I thought by sharing the problem it might help somebody else as well.....

Just occurred to me that I blanked the EGR's at the same time as doing the brakes.....before all the problems started......done 2 disco's before with no bother though, might this be related?
And this one is a 57 plate.....need a patch?

The engine light may come on, on a 2007 if you blank the EGRs without a patch.
or ENGINE FAULT message on LCD

Thanks for the info.....I haven't got one an EML yet, maybe it hasn't kicked in yet? Either way, I'll re-instate the EGR's tomorrow, see if it does anything......the more I think of it, the more it makes sense....faults on light or trailing throttle......
