stormers on 275/45/20 ,
I think I might have been one of the first (on here) to run this setup on Grabber UHP's
tyres are now on for 56k , with no problems .
I just ordered 4 new ones @ Camskill as my current ones are starting to go off, still legal (just)
but time to change out.
Still 56k ... they owe me nothing ,

Well I've done 1000 miles with the 20's on, and I think I may have found some reasons, and maybe a theory to the ride "issue". I posted before that the ride isnt quite as refined with the 20's on, and mine needed a few attempts at balancing, but I'm convinced that they are now balanced spot on, although I still have a slight steering "shimmer" on some surfaces. It looks like this could be down to steering damping, as from various discussions I've had, this is also seen on a fair few RRS's running 20's, so one reason could be 20's are just on or over the limit of the damped steering rack (as its the same part of both D3 and RRS, they dont have a separate damper like earlier Disco's did). If you've got a good rack, you dont get the shimmer, if yours is not so good, you get the shimmer. Mines actually leaking (spotted by the dealer at the 45k service) and a new ones been ordered, so I'm going to see if this improves things.
The other point thats been mention is similar to that which affected the TD6 FFRR, where LR told dealers not to fit 20" wheels to the diesel, as the engine harmonics when on 20's set up a vibration. Its thought this might be the case with the TDV6 also. Its not there on the TDV8.
Ulitmately, it may be 19's are the highest size to go if you want magic carpet ride quality (good job I've kept mine as maybe they might be back on , just a damn shame it it looks great on the 20's)

well it was one of those days. i dont want to take the 20's off either, but can I live with a not so perfect ride
So, I guess I'm looking for ways to get it sorted, therefore, my theory lesson

Just remember something from when I test drove an HSE. That "tramlined" down a certain stretch of the A33 outside Reading. MY SE doesn't.
Could be something to do with the tyre tread pattern I think on wider rims maybe? Welcome "Lola"

Since we're atalking about stormer wheels and tires here, I have a slight question that is a bit out there. Here we go, I had tried to mount 285/50/20 on stormer wheels bought off of ebay and it wouldn't fit...The tirerack operator told me it would....Arg im so angry...Anyhow I wanted to know a tire size that would fit with no issues, any suggestions?

Stormers are usually 20" and 9.5" wide, so should take 285/50's no problem. I considered those before going for 295/45s. 275/45's fit OK as well.
It what way wouldnt they fit?

just while this thread is back open, recently fitted stormers and Grabber UHPs (275x45x20s), and i am getting a noticeable steering wobble, seems to be anything over 40-50 mph.....I will get the balancing checked again but could this problem be the steering rack issue that al cope commented on? other than the slight wobble coming through the steering i am impressed with the ride quality of the 20's
