I think my issue has resolved itself (i've not heard it for a while now) and the only thing that has changed since having the issue is that I resolved a different problem that I had with my rear tailgate switch...there was a broken wire that stopped the press switch from working (it would open just fine with the key fob). I ordered a new switch and replaced it...that was a fun job (not!) to get the tailgate handle off as all 4 of the bolts had rusted into place and needed drilling out. So I can only assume that the broken wire was causing a short which MAY have been draining the battery (not that I noticed) and was making the alarm do this odd squeek at regular intervals.
There was one post that suggested the alarm system has an internal (rechargable?) battery that may well be at the end of its life causing the issue, but I never dived into the module to find out myself (I don't even know where in the vehicle that is!).
