Strange behaviour audio

Hi All,

My 2014 Disco4 has some strange issues with the audio. I've got the 825W Meridian System.

A couple of months ago the sound sometimes stopped and I could re-enable it by switching the source to eg iPod and back to tuner.

Since 2 weeks I get cracks and 'Alien'-sounds out of the speakers from time to time, and I can see my iPhone gets disconnected + the tuner restarts. Yesterday evening I also noticed that my headlights were blinking during these strange sounds.

To make things even worse, I've had the last week some difficulty to put the gear selector in reverse, it just wouldn't turn. Shutting the engine off and back on solves it, but today I had to do that 4 times and eventually I pushed hard on my brake pedal after which I could select reserve.

I personally think those 2 problems are related to ground-connection troubles.

I've connected my IID tool and noticed the voltage of the battery was low, 11 - 11,5V. I think this is too low?

Some faults are also te be noted:

I have similar audio problems and the only error my iiD throws up is the "Antenna to Ground" error - would be very interested to hear if anyone has found the cause of that?

I've had my Disco towed yesterday to the dealership; I couldn't get it out of Drive. Had to use the emergency pull to put in Neutral.

Luckily I had a service appointment on monday, so maybe I can give you some info next week.

Today I collected my car from the dealer.

The problem with the gear selector has been solved:
- Replacement of transfer gearbox module
- Work
--> Total : € 640 + VAT

Audio problem and blinking headlights : nothing found, nothing solved ...

After driving away, I was only 3km of the dealership when I got a red triangle 'Reduced Power'. Also, the audio problem was back.

Nice, surely after a change of timing belt and 112.000 miles service for € 1.400 + VAT ...
I did a U-turn back to the dealer. They unscrewed the engine-cover and did some fiddling with connectors. We did a test-drive and the reduced power message was gone.

They connected it to their pc to read the faults. The reduced power was due to a blocked 3way valve of the 2 Turbo's. The valve was ok after test, so I hope it was only some corrosion at the connector.

For the audio problems, they did not find any useful fault in the readout. They think it is due to a faulty ECU, but there are a lot ECU's in the car presumably ...

They did not change the battery.

This morning after only 500m I got the message reduced power with the red triangle. During the day, I've made +- 5 trips of 10km without a problem. This evening, after 2km again 'reduced power'.

I've connected my IID-tool. The battery voltage (Ignition ON, engine not running) is 11V, is that ok?

These are the faults:
BCM-Body Control
• B1C99-15 (6C) Right corner lamp circuit - General electrical failure - circuit short to battery or open

• U0140-08 (2C) Lost communication with body control module - General failure information - bus signal/message failure

Bit low ... could easily be the trigger for some of the "faults" appearing.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but wanted to let you know that there are lots of reports on the forum of the many and spurious issues caused by a low battery. 11V is very low I would say. You would recommend giving it a thorough charge, but may not be enough and might need replacing. Is it an old battery? Has the car previously been standing for a long time?
A good, intelligent charger like a CTEK is helpful in these situations.
Good luck.

I'm getting a new battery tomorrow, so maybe the audio / light issue will be solved.

It is the original battery, car has never been standing still for a longer period. Max 2 days.

The restricted performance issue will be hopefully fixed with changing the turbo valve or something like that. I only get the fault when going over 3k RPM and only when the engine is not warm enough. Eg this morning I drove +- 10km below 2.500 rpm and then revved to 3.500 rpm without any problem.

Update : Had my car repaired at a independent service center, specialised in Landrover.

- Problem with audio and lights : solved with new battery. I will send a detailed description to the official Landrover dealer about how to test a car-battery
- Reduced performance : due to faulty Turbo Actuator.

Everything is working now Very Happy
