Strange Blowing Noise

My trusty 2010 D4 is really pushing its luck currently, with one thing and another. Today’s issue is I have noticed a blowing / air whoosh noise from around drivers side wheel arch. It’s engine speed related and louder under load. No untoward smoke but I have noticed recently an increase in fuel but that may be the cold and the FBH.

Could be an intercooler hose, thats what my problem was but it was accompanied with black smoke Thumbs Up

How you feeling buddy?

Well I haven’t got smoke, that I’ve noticed Rolling with laughter

I’ll have a look this weekend and see if I can spot anything, but without the smoke I’m a little worried.

It will be the CSOV valve sticking or stuck, common fault just lately on the D4.

I had a quick look tonight this thing moves when I remove the vacuum pipe, and pops back down when connected. The noise is worse when the pipe is removed. I removed it from the car and it moves relatively freely when i press it in, and pops back up with the spring.

Should I be able to press this in? Do the people in the know think this could be the fault?

The blowing is really bad now, to the point people turn round and wonder what's happening, it sounds like a tool box has ended up in my turbos but as soon as I hit 28000rpm it all goes perfectly quiet.

Replaced the actuator tonight, the new one definitely has more movement than the old one, and after a very short drive the car feels to have its poke back but my fault is still happening. I get this very loud blowing noise from the drivers side, sounds worse under load and goes quiet at about 2,800 then on the gear change it come back. I have no smoke and it’s gone into restricted performance a few times with P1247-00 (68) (before the actuator was changed)

Since the last post I took the whole valve off the D4, and it all looks OK on the bench, and with the new actuator it seems to freely move.

While the car was jacked up I had a poke about the wheel arch and spotted this Big Cry
